In a clip shared to her social media account, she detailed why having a layover shorter than one hour and 40 minutes will result in you missing your next flight

‘As a former airline employee, here’s why I would never book the shortest layover possible,’ she said at the beginning of her video.

Megan explained that flights tend to always get delayed by at least 15 or 20 minutes, meaning that if you book a 45-minute layover, there’s no chance you will make it in time.

‘It’s pretty common for flights to get delayed say 15 to 20 minutes. If you book a 45-minute layover and your first flight gets delayed at all, you’re probably not going to make it,’ she added.

And while you may think you can just hop on the next flight available after a short layover, Megan said you shouldn’t count on it.

‘Don’t necessarily think, “Oh I’ll just get on the next flight,” because that one may be full.

She noted that you should always go for a longer layover.

‘If you have the option between a 45-minute layover and a two-hour layover, book the two-hour layover,’ the 27-year-old said.

According to Alternative Airlines, the recommended time between flights for a domestic trip is 60 minutes.

For international flights, you should give yourself at least two hours.

If you have booked two different airlines, then you should allow yourself at least two hours for domestic and three hours for international flights.

Many social media users rushed to the comments section to emphasize Megan’s point.

‘Yep! I always make sure my layovers are long, to account for anything that could possibly happen,’ one person wrote.

Someone else added: ‘Always the longer one, yes!’

‘Especially for international flights guaranteed to cut it close,’ another added.

‘I will never do a layover that’s less than an hour,’ one comment read.
