Inside Ed Sheeran and Cherry Seaborns relationship including secret wedding

Ed Sheeran is notoriously private about his personal life, and especially about his wife Cherry Seaborn, who he got married to in a top-secret wedding in winter 2018.

The Perfect singer, who is set to open The BRIT Awards 2022, took to Instagram to reveal to his 36.9 million followers that he was engaged to be married in 2017, and then during an interview with Access in August 2018, Ed hinted the couple were already husband and wife.

Fast-forward a few years and the loved-up duo are now parents to one year old daughter Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran who they welcomed in August 2020.

Here's everything you need to know about their relationship…

Who is Cherry Seaborn?

Cherry, 29, is sports mad and a star hockey player, having played in the British University championships.

She was also picked for England's Under 21 team, and earned a bronze medal in the European Championships.

She reportedly worked at one point in New York as an Advisory Consultant.

How did Ed and Cherry meet?

Cherry met Ed long before he was a global superstar, as they were classmates at Thomas Mills High School, Suffolk.

However, Cherry later left for America to attend university in North Carolina.

However she moved back to the UK to support the singer as he made his hotly-anticipated comeback.

Ed previously opened up in a rare mention of his other half, recalling the moment he knew the hockey star was the one.

“I'm actually the happiest I've been and it's because I had a year to spend with someone,” he said during an appearance on Radio 2.

“I’m really secure now, we live together and we have cats, and I think when you have cats that's kind of it.”

How long have Ed and Cherry being in a relationship?

Ed and Cherry are thought to have started dating in September 2015, with Ed following Cherry on Twitter just before the news broke.

They were pictured kissing for the first time in July 2016, at a party thrown by Taylor Swift, with the singer inadvertently outing their relationship.

The pair were caught kissing in the background of the snap posted by Taylor who was celebrating her two friends getting engaged at the time.

The secret winter wedding

Ed and Cherry got married in late 2018 in an intimate ceremony that reportedly took place at Ed’s country estate in Suffolk just before Christmas.

A source reportedly told the Sun: "There were only 40 people – so no Taylor Swift, record company executives or any royals or pop star pals. He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them – just a tiny winter wedding."

When the singer was asked about the possibility of a wedding and the planning details during an interview he responded by pointing to what appeared to be a wedding band on his ring finger confirming that it had already happened.

When they announced they were engaged, Ed shared a picture of him kissing Cherry and captioned it: "Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well xx."

Ed and Cherry's first child

In September 2020 Ed took to Instagram to reveal Cherry had given birth to their first child together by sharing a sweet photo of a blue, green and brown blanket with a pair of tiny black socks sitting on the top.

In the caption, the Shape Of You hitmaker explained that the couple were "completely in love" with their baby girl.

"Ello! A quick message from me as I have some personal news that I wanted to share with you…" he started.

"Last week, with the help of an amazing delivery team, Cherry gave birth to our beautiful and healthy daughter – Lyra Antarctica Seaborn Sheeran.

"We are completely in love with her. Both mum and baby are doing amazing and we are on cloud nine over here. We hope that you can respect our privacy at this time."

However in October 2021 Ed revealed that he was isolating with his one year old daughter Lyra after she tested positive for Covid-19, following his announcement that he had tested positive for the virus.

Ed told MailOnline: “I’m self-isolating with my daughter. I have been alone with her, without my wife, since we are both positive. I am now going to spend 10 days alone with her.”

The singer did note some positives about the situation though, adding: “Sometimes I am away and spend just two days a week with her, so being able to be with her for 10 straight days is great.”
