Is Greggs open during lockdown 3? Opening times and advice

GREGGS lovers might be wondering whether they can still grab a steak bake under new lockdown rules.

Boris Johnson ordered everyone in England to stay at home until mid-February in the fight against Covid.

To stop the spread of the new variant – which is between 50 and 70 per cent more transmissible – a third lockdown has been enforced, with all schools and non-essential retail shutting.

You can get your Greggs snack, but what are the rules in place? We explain everything we know so far.

Is Greggs open during lockdown?

Greggs closed its doors during the first lockdown.

But it looks like the store will be keeping its doors open this time around.

Hospitality venues must close under lockdown rules, and are only allowed to serve takeaway food and non-alcoholic drinks.

So you can grab a Greggs – but you can’t eat in store.

You can also use the store’s click and collect service too.

You’ll have to sign up for an account, which you can do here.

And you can also order through Just Eat.

When inside stores, you must follow social distancing rules and wear a mask, unless you are exempt.

Only one adult per household is allowed in the shop – but children can join them if needed.

Greggs says it would prefer customers to pay by card or contactless where possible.

Customer toilets will remain closed.

The store is also offering fewer products than usual because there are fewer staff in shops to keep in line with social distancing.

When does Greggs open during lockdown?

Greggs opening and closing times vary from store to store.

Many shops open as early as 6am and some can close as late as 10pm.

Under lockdown rules, all hospitality must close at 11pm.

Before you make a trip, it’s best to check when your local shop opens and closes by using the chain’s store locator.

Fans will be pleased the store is not closing like it did during the first lockdown last year.

All stores were closed on March 23, even though it was allowed to stay open for takeaway orders.

Following a later trial reopening, around 800 of Greggs’ branches opened for business by mid June.

If you’re unsure about which shops can still stay open during the third lockdown, then we’ve rounded up a list of essential retailers.

And here are the shops that must close.

If you’re desperate to know when you can get your Covid jab, here’s the online calculator you can use which will give you a clue.
