I've struggled to make friends since moving to a new area and feel so alone

DEAR DEIDRE: AFTER moving to a new area with my partner three years ago, I have struggled to make new friends.

I feel so alone. I am 26 and my partner is 28. We have a beautiful baby girl together.

My parents are alcoholics and I was neglected by them.

I have always struggled to socialise and could never mingle confidently at a party.

I feel like an outcast and it makes me so sad.

I have always wanted to have a friendship group, but I just can’t see it happening.

DEIDRE SAYS: I am sorry you feel so alone.

Having a small child yourself will prompt those miserable memories from your own difficult childhood.

But there are good times ahead.

Having a child is the best way to meet other mums and, as the weather warms up, you will get plenty of opportunities to meet others out and about.

Restrictions will soon ease, bringing more opportunities to socialise at playgroups. Hang in there.

My support pack Feeling Lonely will help you too.
