Kate Middleton and Prince William show ‘like-minded thinking’ with ‘echoing’ behaviour

Kate Middleton and William thank NHS staff on Burns Night

Kate Middleton, 39, and Prince William, 38, tied the knot in 2011 in Westminster Abbey after being engaged for one year. William proposed to Kate in Kenya whilst on holiday at Lewa Safari Camp. An expert has commented on what their body language shows.

Kate is a working member of the Royal Family which means she will often attend events and engagements with William.

With her interests in charities and organisations, the royal will also appear on her own.

She has turned her attention virtually throughout the pandemic, speaking to lots of people from parents to frontline workers.

What does body language expert Judi James think of the couple’s signals?

The expert explained: “William and Kate’s body language signals suggest they will bring something unique to the monarchy when they finally become King and Queen.

“No royal couple in UK history has shown such an even status balance and style of compatibility.

“Previous and current royals, including Charles and Camilla, have tended to be much more obvious in their displays of royal protocol pecking-order.”

When in public, although the couple have increased their public displays of affection in recent years, this is still kept to a minimum.

Instead, Judi shared how their loving relationship is defined by their “intense” and “often subliminal mirroring signals”.

She added: “Postural and gestural echoing behaviour like theirs is usually a sign of like-minded thinking.

“Camilla will often be seen mimicking Charles’s actions, but by copying them after he has performed them she shows respect and a constant bowing to his higher status.

“William and Kate tend to mirror one at the same time without conscious copying, suggesting similar personalities and a strong ‘team of two’ vibe.”

In recent years, William can be seen regularly putting his arm around Kate and the couple can be seen laughing and joking.

Judi said: “Recently the couple have been seen to relax more in public though and display their more playful side and when they do their smiles tend to be mutually flattering or encouraging.”

When out and about, the royal couple will often walk close to one another as well as sitting in the same position too.

Judi went on: “Their strong choreography looks natural, suggesting their approach to the throne will be equally like-minded in terms of their understanding of the job and how it needs to be done.

“Couples will often have to use tie-signs to communicate in public, using small glances or touches to announce their intention to take over a conversation or to keep track of the other partner’s thoughts and feelings, but the Cambridge’s seem to be in tune enough to not need this kind of silent shorthand.”

The Cambridge’s relationship will be a “first for the crown” according to the expert.

“Kate and William use rituals of compatible smiling when their smiles are aimed at one another rather than the public. While their public smiles are pitch-perfect they lack the kind of muscle tension or muscle pulling that will often betray an inauthentic, performed smile.

“No smile that has been held for the length of time the Cambridge’s hold them can be totally genuine but, like The Queen Mother, they have both acquired the knack of the held smile that lacks the kind of rigidity that gives it away as fake.”

Kate’s most recent appearance was yesterday where she appeared without William and held a call with two Holocaust survivors.

The Duchess joined Zigi Shipper and Manfred Goldberg on a virtual call to speak about their experiences.

The Duchess said: “The stories you have shared with me, and your dedication in educating the younger generation about your experiences and the horrors of the Holocaust shows extreme strength and such bravery.”
