Body language and behavioural expert Darren Stanton, speaking on behalf of Betfair Casino, analysed King Charles’s speech and non-verbal communication over the years, from his “nervous” and “extremely introverted” time as a Prince to his “confident” gestures as King.

The body language guru explained that King Charles was once an “extremely introverted” man but Camilla “played a fundamental role” in his “happiness and levels of confidence”.

The relationship with Camilla has been a significant part of Charles’s life and when the couple went public, his “levels of confidence and self-reassurance developed greatly,” Darren claimed.

The expert opined that while Charles “still makes the odd gesture here and there”, he does not use the amount of “pacifying and self-reassurance” gestures he used to.

The expert added: “It’s clear that Camilla has played a fundamental role in King Charles’ happiness and his ability to be comfortable both with himself and in the company of others.

“He seems a lot more confident and willing to converse and laugh with his family, as well as members of the public.”

The couple normally attends official engagements together where Charles “relies on Camilla to a large extent”.

“If the two become separated, it’s clear Charles is keen to make sure she is nearby,” the body language expert claimed.

As a young royal, Charles was not very outgoing and “extremely introverted” as his interaction with the general world was limited.

“Charles grew up to be quite a nervous man” as a result of his environment being quite shielded, the expert opined.

However, he improved and stopped displaying “nervous” gestures, often referred to as pacifiers or self-reassurance gestures, which are designed to calm you down.

One of King Charles’s self-reassurance tell-tale signs is “playing with his cufflinks”. Charles “would often do this at social events, which is a clear indication of nerves,” Darren explained.

He is also known to place his half hand inside his jacket in public, also “known as the hand tuck”, which is “a gesture of reassurance that everything is okay”.

Darren claimed that Prince William and Prince Harry have inherited these gestures from him as spotted in some photographs.

However, since becoming King, people have seen a decline in the use of these pacifying gestures.

“There is an element of confidence in his tone and he has generally become a lot more statesmanlike in his body posture than ever before.

“King Charles has grown into a confident, well-developed, socially adept man, who has spent his life preparing for his role as our monarch.”

According to the expert, becoming King has been “a huge turning point” in Charles’s life and his confidence has “grown greatly”.

He once “did not like crowds very much” but he is now speaking and engaging with people more than ever.

“I think Charles has set aside many of the royal protocols he has grown up with and has been installed in him by the Queen, as we are now living in a very different society.

“We have never seen members of the Royal Family interact more than they do right now,” Darren opined.
