Mary-Kate Olsen Makes a Rare Appearance While Endorsing 2021's Biggest Shoe Trend

Mary-Kate Olsen

Mary-Kate Olsen has made another rare appearance running errands in NYC while proving she is the queen of incognito chic. At this point it's almost working against her, because only she could look like this. Oversized black coat, big beanie, square sunglasses, and platform shoes are all the necessary ingredients that make up an Olsen sister.

While Olsen seems to be very into the beanie accessory she and Gigi Hadid have been reclaiming from the Brooklyn skater boy, she also endorsed the biggest shoe trend of 2021: platform boots. More specifically, it appears she is wearing a platform loafer, a trend Katie Holmes has been wearing on repeat for weeks.

Platform shoes in general are back in a big way and are poised to be one of the biggest trends of 2021. They're the perfect gateway shoe between something super causal like a sneaker and the forever formal high heel. In other words, they're exactly the type of shoe you'd want to wear while transitioning into a (hopefully) more active year. But unlike the babydoll shoe trend, platform loafers are far less controversial.

And while Olsen's yet-to-be-identified pair likely cost more than our life's savings, as her accessories tend to, platform loafers more or less look the same regardless of the price tag. Nordstrom has a handful from brands like Jeffrey Campbell that retail for under $200 or some luxury options from brands like Tod's for nearly $700.

But the best news is, while platform loafers definitely look good if you're incognito running errands, they'll also look great when we all hopefully rejoin society at a bar or restaurant. If we're lucky, maybe we'll run into Olsen wearing a similar pair, a surefire giveaway that it's her.
