Masturbate first and pick a boring position but DON’T use creams… 6 tips to help you last longer in bed

KEEPING foreplay boring and doing as many positions as possible can help fellas last longer in bed, a top sex expert has claimed.

A quarter of blokes struggle with premature ejaculation – with many climaxing within 60 seconds.

It can lead to arguments, stress, and even relationship breakdowns from embarrassment.

Dr Sarah Jarvis, clinical director of Patient.info said: "We don’t know precisely how many men have it because embarrassment stops many of them from seeking medical help, but it may be up to a third of men.

"It can have a huge impact on confidence and often affects relationships, and can even lead to depression.

"In fact, I often see men coming in for the first time to talk about it when it has led to the break-up of a relationship."

But there are things blokes can do to stop themselves finishing early.

Sun columnist Dr Pam Spurr, who is on Twitter @drpamspurr, has revealed what – and what not – to do to if you want to last longer in bed.

1. MASTURBATE BEFORE SEX

Masturbating before you have sex is a sure-fire way to make sure you go the distance with your partner.

It will stop you getting overstimulated the second time around – but don't do it immediately before as you need 30 to 60 minutes to recover.

Dr Pam told The Sun: "Get practical and masturbate before being with your partner. Men are usually slower the so-called ‘second time around'."

2. CHANGE POSITION

Switching to a less exciting position will stop you hitting that sweet spot too soon.

"Choose a position that you find less exciting to help slow you down," she said.

3. KEEP FOREPLAY BORING

Keeping foreplay boring can also help delay the inevitable.

Pam said: "Ask your partner not to stimulate you in ways that get you over-excited during foreplay."

4. FOCUS ON YOUR PARTNER INSTEAD

Focusing on your partner will not only distract you, but will also win you brownie points for being an attentive lover.

"Focus on your partner’s pleasure so you’re not thinking about your own arousal. Ask her what is feeling good and what she wants more of to keep your mind off yourself," she said.

5. OPEN UP TO YOUR PARTNER

Communication is key to sex. Discuss your insecurities about premature ejaculation, and warn your partner each time you try new techniques.

Pam said: "Open up to your partner that you’re going to try various techniques to last longer. If you hide your anxiety about PE it simply gets worse."

6. STRENGTHEN YOUR PELVIC FLOOR

Strengthening your pelvic floor with kegel exercises is a proven solution to premature ejaculation – and it makes sex better for your partner

Pam said: "For long-term relief from PE definitely strengthen your pelvic floor muscles. These are the muscles that run from your pubic bone, at the base of your penis, around to your bottom.

"Try squeezing these, get a feeling for tightening and relaxing them.

"Build to 20 repetitions, squeezing for two to three seconds each time, twice daily.

"This is crucial to lasting longer but also for having more powerful orgasms!

"Test the developing strength of these muscles during masturbation.

"As you start approaching your point of ‘no return’ – where you will climax even if they charging rhinoceros burst into the room – squeeze them.

"As you gain control of these, this squeezing will slow down your climax.

"Use this for added fun during sex. Pulsate and squeeze your pelvic floor muscles and your partner will feel your penis moving inside her. Super sexy!"

And here's what NOT to do…

1. DON'T SQUEEZE OR PINCH

Deliberately making your member hurt to delay ejaculation can cause you to associate negative emotions with sex – so steer clear.

Pam says: "Definitely stay away from the so-called ‘squeeze’ or ‘pinch’ technique. This is where a man squeezes/pinches the glans (the head) of his penis to stop himself climaxing.

"The discomfort – and even pain – this causes can create negativity around sex. You don’t want that particularly when you’re probably anxious about PE."

2. DON'T USE CREAMS

Using numbing creams is a short-term solution that has potentially dangerous side effects for both parties. Steer clear.

"Resist using creams that deaden your sensations. You should use the tips above to help you in a natural way."
