Megan Barton-Hanson's ex-girlfriend Chelcee Grimes has revealed that she is 'at peace' with herself after spending 10 months celibate and going sober.

The British singer-songwriter, from Liverpool, who has written for the likes of Dua Lipa, The Saturdays and Kylie Minogue, revealed in an exclusive interview with OK! that she is 'in the best place' and is totally focused on her career and health.

Chelcee, who split from Love Island star Megan, 27, in October 2019, described how she was 'lonely' in London but has loved moving back to Liverpool where she has found her dream home and is close to her sister and best friends.

In a candid and raw chat, the Grammy-nominated songwriter said: "I am just so happy where I am in my life right now. In my twenties I maybe would stay in relationships.

"I was lonely in London – that is the honest truth of it. The relationships I was in while I was living in London – they just wouldn’t happen now because I am so at peace.

"I have my house sorted, my music is doing amazing, TV work and I have the podcast. I am so busy! Unless someone blows my socks off, I am so good on my own."

Meanwhile Chelcee also described how she feels like she is 'flying' in her career after opting to go sober on Christmas Eve 2020 and has also spent 10 months celibate.

Speaking about taking a break from alcohol, Chelcee said: "For me, being a scouser and a nineties baby I think alcohol goes hand-in-hand so I thought: 'Let me just see if I can do it.'"

Chelcee described how she read The Unexpected Joy of Being Sober: Discovering a Happy, Healthy, Wealthy Alcohol-free Life, which made her re-think her drinking habits.

"I felt like if I had a song that did really well I would have a drink, if I got back and I had a bad day I would maybe pour a glass of wine and I thought: 'I need to see if I can cut it out,'" she explained.

"I was getting a bit of anxiety the next day and just that feeling that you are wasting the day. It would just sit in my gut. This dull, weird feeling that I couldn’t shake for two of three days. It was more the mental health side of things but I just feel like I am flying now."

Chelcee, who co-hosts the BBC podcast, Building Queertopia, also described how going celibate for 10 months while she was sober felt 'so powerful' and she has turned down multiple dating shows because she wants to meet someone 'organically'.

Speaking about dating post-lockdown, she said: "It is amazing going on dates and being sober because you don’t take any s***. The things that you might let pass, characteristic traits or anything people do when you are tipsy on a date just doesn’t happen when I am sober."

She continued: "I just feel so much more in control and it is a powerful thing.

"I am just focused on myself, my health, my career and I am literally in the best place I have ever been in so hopefully I will find someone when the time is right and we just match up!"

However Chelcee, who plays for Merseyrail Ladies Football Club, revealed that she would not have changed anything about her former love life, adding: "I wouldn’t have done anything different in my past relationships because I wouldn’t have got to this place where I am at now.

She added: "I have had ups and downs but I have just grounded myself now and I wouldn’t have got here if I hadn’t had made some not-so-good decisions in the past."
