Meghan’s response to being compared to Oscar-winner and Hollywood heavyweight Gwyneth Paltrow “suggests the comparison is not totally to her liking.” The moment was analysed exclusively for the Express by body language expert Judi James.
An interview clip of Meghan Markle has resurfaced from 2015, one year before she met Prince Harry. The interview shows Meghan being questioned by two presenters while attending New York Fashion Week.
Interviewer Daniel Martin – who is also a close friend of the now-Duchess’s – asks Meghan about her lifestyle blog, The Tig, which the former-actress launched in May 2014. Daniel claims says the blog, which covers lifestyle topics such as cooking, fashion and travelling, has been a “huge hit”.
He describes The Tig as “so much fun” due to the “personal voice” of the blog
Meghan explains: “It’s an extension of the things I just love. People would ask me ‘where should I go for vacation’ or ‘what is the best place to find a hidden gem or the perfect bite of food. So I interview Michelin-star chefs and go and source out the best travel places, and of course, we have to be here for Fashion Week because The Tig does a lot of coverage of that too.”
At this point in the interview, Judi, who also recently analysed Meghan’s response to being interrupted mid interview, claims Meghan “shows her intense and awesome skills at creating bonds of very personal and personable friendship.”
The body language expert explains: “[Meghan] is chatty and animated, with some cute, self-effacing body squeezes, where she pulls her arms into her torso and grins at the audience.”
However, Meghan pauses slightly and shrugs her shoulders after the other interviewer, reality TV star Kristin Cavallari, asks her if The Tig is “like your own little min-Goop”.
Goop is Gwyneth Paltrow’s lifestyle brand and website and it has received some criticism for its health and lifestyle advice as well as the promotion of intimate health products, such as jade eggs and an infamous “vagina candle”.
At this moment, Judi said the “mood music shifts slightly” in the interview. However, the body language expert adds that Meghan is able to hide any discomfort “skillfully”.
After the presenter makes the comparison, Meghan hunches her shoulders and says: “Yeah I guess, it’s similar in many ways…but I think [with] The Tig, the tagline is ‘inspired lifestyle’ so I just want people to feel the positivity and excitement.”
Judi says: “As she is selling her Tig website, telling how she covers top-notch interviews and fashion shows etc, the interviewer refers to it as a ‘Mini-Goop then?’, referring to Gwyneth Paltrow’s brand.”

Judi analysed Meghan’s reaction and said: “Meghan pauses, closes her eyes before raising them upward and shrugs her shoulders before touching her face in a partial cut-off gesture that suggests the comparison is not totally to her liking.”
Gwyneth Paltrow is currently in court facing a civil lawsuit regarding a skiing accident. Retired optometrist Sanderson claims Paltrow hit him on the slopes at a luxury ski resort, the Deer Valley Resort near Park City, Utah.
He alleges he was left with “permanent traumatic brain injury, four broken ribs, pain, suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, emotional distress and disfigurement”. Gwyneth claims it was the other way around, that Sanderson hit her.
