A competitive mother who took part in her daughter’s sports day proved she would do whatever it takes to win after sending another mum flying.
Katie McDermott, 25, snuck in a crafty nudge as she took part in the parents’ race during the sports day on Wednesday.
A video shows Katie, from Coventry running neck-and-neck alongside another mother, with the race looking like it was too close to call.
Katie McDermott, 25, from Coventry, went to extreme measures to make sure she won the parents’ race at her daughter’s sports day
Katie, pictured with her red hair, can be seen knocking over her competitor to ensure she won the parents’ race
From a different angle, it looked like Katie was ever-so-slightly behind in the race which led her to take action
However, determined to emerge victorious Katie resorted to dirty tricks and could be seen pushing her competitor aside, sending the poor woman flying.
Katie said: ‘I told my daughter I would be number one, so I had to be!
‘I could see [the other woman] was winning – so I just gave her a quick nudge and she took off in the air.
‘I don’t know what possessed me to do it, I was just thinking about how I wanted to win so badly!
‘I didn’t know the mum very well – everyone was shocked but we just carried on as normal afterwards.
‘If you see this, sorry that I pushed you – I didn’t mean to send you flying!
Katie said she has no regrets about her behaviour because she emerged from the race victorious
The mother, 25, said she didn’t know the woman she pushed over and apologised to her
Katie (pictured crossing the finish line) said spectators were shocked at her actions but soon went about their day and the saga was forgotten
The mother said she was determined to be ‘number one’ after promising her daughter she would win the race
‘I don’t regret it though, because I won!’
Last month another mother was left ‘mortified’ after falling over during the mothers’ race at her daughter’s sports day and inadvertently mooning the entire crowd.
Katie Hannaford, from Basildon in Essex, was convinced by her eight-year-old daughter to take part in the race on 15 June but was left red-faced when she tumbled over and showed her bottom and her thong to the entire crowd.
The 36-year-old, who fell over as soon as the race started, said she wasn’t quite sure what on earth happened – but thought her body might have been moving too fast for her legs.
Although she admitted she was ‘humiliated’ at the time, Katie later said she had learnt to ‘own it’ and could see the funny side.
She said: ‘Looking back, it’s hilarious. Definitely the funniest thing I’ve ever done in my life!’
