Mother, 38, who ballooned to 16st 6lb loses 7st in 7 months

Mother who ballooned to more than 16st while consuming up to 4,000 calories in snacks and glasses of wine a night loses 7st in as many months after £10,000 gastric sleeve surgery

  • Samantha Noyce, 38, from Surrey ballooned to 16st due to comfort eating
  • The mother-of-two said she used food as a coping mechanism for anxiety
  • She says she became reclusive because she felt uncomfortable about her weight
  • So she spent £10,000 on gastric sleeve surgery, and lost 7st in seven months

A mother-of-two looks unrecognisable after dropping 7st in seven months, after spending £10,000 on her dream body.

Samantha Noyce, a dog walker from Addlestone, Surrey, ballooned to 16st 6lbs after consuming more than 3,000 calories in snacks each evening.

The 38-year-old now weighs 9st 6lbs after shedding an impressive 7st in seven months thanks to taking out a loan to fund her £10,000 gastric sleeve surgery in September last year.

Samantha used food as a coping mechanism for her anxiety which would be significantly higher during the evenings.

This caused her to snack on three share bags of chocolate, six packets of crisps, two bags of sweets and slices of bread and butter that would be washed down with a few glasses of Pinot Grigio at least five times a week.

Samantha is now unrecognisable after losing the weight and overhauling her diet, cutting down on crisps, chocolate, sweets and wine, and feels confident enough to wear a bikini

Samantha said: ‘I tried so hard to eat healthily throughout the day, but when it got to the evening I would consume between 3,000 and 4,000 calories in snacks and glasses of wine.

‘I suffered from health anxiety after having an abnormal smear test when I was 28 and struggled with using food to cope with it ever since.

‘I was yo-yoing dieting for years but I could never get passed a certain point and then when lockdown hit, I really started to balloon.

‘My weaknesses were wine, chocolate, sweets and crisps.

‘I was miserable. I became a recluse. I tried to avoid seeing anyone or going anywhere as much as I could.

‘I hid myself away in black baggy clothes and I stopped doing things with my kids, Kourtney, 21, and Alfie, 13, because I didn’t want people to know that they had a fat mum.

Samantha (picture pre-weight loss) ate between 3,000 and 4,000 calories a day, snacking on foods like crisps and chocolate, leading to her weight gain

According to Samantha, before losing weight (pictured), she says she weighed over 16st, which she describes as ‘a lot’ for her 5’3″ height

‘I decided to take out a loan to pay for weight loss surgery because I needed to take back control of my life.

‘It’s the best thing I’ve ever done. I lost 7st and hit my goal weight within seven months. I could never have imagined that it would have been able to lose so much weight in such a short time.’

Since the lockdown after Christmas in 2020, Samantha was diagnosed with severe depression.

She was crying out for help and knew that she needed to lose weight, but says that she was told that she wasn’t big enough to qualify to have weight loss surgery done with the NHS.

Samantha added: ‘I’m 5ft 3in, so carrying around 16st 7lbs was a lot.

After: the surgical procedure helped the mother-of-two drastically overhaul her eating habits, leading to her substantial weight loss

Samantha has described the decision to have the operation as ‘taking back control’ of her life – though says surgery is not the easy option when it comes to weight loss

‘I decided to take back control of my life. As I was scrolling through someone’s social media one day I saw her incredible before and after picture, so I got in touch to find out what her secret was.

‘She told me about her gastric sleeve surgery (where part of the stomach is removed) and I immediately wanted it.

‘I got in touch with the surgeon, had my consultation and got it booked.

‘It cost £10,000 in total and I took out a loan to help me pay for it. I wanted to get it done in the UK and I knew I could afford the payments.

‘Liberated’: Samantha (pictured after losing weight) describes herself as being ‘liberated from the scale’ after transforming her diet and body

According to Samantha, it took her a while to process the weight loss, and to equate the body she saw in the mirror to the way she felt in her mind

‘I had my surgery on 11 September 2021. I was petrified with an element of relief about the fact that I was going to get my life back.

‘It was a huge decision. People often think surgery is the easy route to weight loss, but it was one of the hardest things I have ever done.’

Samantha struggled after her surgery and panicked that she would never be able to eat normally again.

She admits that she initially thought she had ruined her life.

Samantha said: ‘I was mourning food because of the liquid and pureed diet I had to be on.

How many calories could Samantha consume in one evening?

Share bag of chocolate x3: 3500

Packet of crisps x6: 790

Bag of sweets x2: 350

Bread and butter x2: 300

Medium glass of Pinot Grigio x3: 400

‘It was mentally and physically tough, but when I started to see results it felt amazing.

‘I’d spent years chasing numbers on the scales and I was finally starting to see them.

‘My confidence started coming back and it felt good.

‘Within seven months I’d lost 7stand hit my goal weight. I never expected this to happen and it took a while to process.

‘In my head, I was still over 16st, so when I looked at myself in the mirror it didn’t feel like that body was mine.

‘It was an emotional rollercoaster.

‘After losing 7st I knew I didn’t have to worry about the scales anymore. I feel free and liberated from the scales.’

Samantha says that she is like an entirely new person and she feels 10 years younger.

She added: ‘Mentally, I am in the best place I have been in over ten years.

‘I am fitter, I can do activities with my kids, I am so much more body confident and my relationship has even changed with my husband, George, 37.

Samantha (pictured after her weight loss), says her relationship with husband George (pictured, right) has changed as she’s become more body confident

‘I have gone from never buying myself clothes because it was too stressful and covering up in black baggy clothes to becoming clothes obsessed.

‘I have no black in my wardrobe now, it is all bright and colourful. It screams ‘look at me!’

‘I can even share clothes with my 21-year-old daughter now as we are both a size six. I have a new lease of life and it is amazing.’
