A mother-of-two who saved a staggering $30,000 inside just 12 months has revealed how she made $1,500 in a month from rewards programs, and how you can too.

Olivia White, from Melbourne, said changing your habits even slightly can make rewards programs pay off ‘big time’, and there are a few programs she specifically swears by.

The 31-year-old relies on a combination of Woolworths Everyday Rewards, Qantas Frequent Flyer points, Shopback, Priceline Sister Club and more to make up to $1,500 per month.

Olivia said you can use your extra $1,500 for your savings, a holiday or just as a boost for your everyday expenses.

Woolworths Everyday Rewards

The first rewards program Olivia relies on is Woolworths Everyday Rewards, which you can redeem a number of ways.

‘I have set my rewards points to Qantas Points, which makes it harder to track a dollar value. But you can also get dollars off your shop and fuel,’ Olivia wrote on her website.

In January, Olivia said she redeemed all her Woolworths Qantas points to score a two night stay worth $660.

‘There are epic specials at the moment with bonus points and discounted stays,’ Olivia said.

It’s worth keeping an eye on what is available to redeem to you.

Qantas Frequent Flyer Points

The second rewards program Olivia uses religiously is a points earning credit card, which she then uses to convert to Qantas Frequent Flyer Points.

‘Always look for any ways to earn bonus points. In January, we insured a new car and got a bonus 40,000 points,’ Olivia said.

She said 40,000 points is a lot, as a one-way fare from Melbourne to Perth currently costs 18,000 points (to a value of $453).

You can often also use Qantas points to cover the cost of accommodation. You can sign up here when you have an Everyday Rewards Card.

One of the more unusual rewards programs Olivia uses is Shopback, which she said she has been using on every single online purchase for over two years now (pictured with her family)

Shopback

What are Olivia’a top tips for using Shopback?

* Be signed up for their newsletter and wait for great deals.

* Shop via the app and click through to where you want to shop.

* Have the Google Chrome Extension on your desktop.

* Google the item you are looking for and see which stores have the best cashback offer and discounts.

* Invite your friends to use Shopback and get a referral signup bonus.

One of the more unusual rewards programs Olivia uses is Shopback, which she said she has been using on every single online purchase for over two years now.

‘I always check the app or Google Chrome extension to see who has the best cashback offers and ALWAYS use it when booking travel when I can as this is where I find I make the best cashbacks,’ Olivia said.

She said you can also wait to make a purchase until that store has a bonus cashback offer and uses it when she will get the most money.

The 31-year-old said one of the best things about Shopback is that it can be deposited directly into your bank account; she used the $1,500 she made last year as a Christmas fund.

‘In January, I made $397.05 back from spending with Shopback. This was from regular spending, travel and several referral signups,’ Olivia said.

Origin ‘Spike’ Program

Olivia recently started using Origin ‘Spike’, and said she loves it for a few reasons.

You can earn cashback in the form of PayPal money of gift cards, but you can also help reduce your overall electricity usage and bills:

‘Each week you are given a “spike” hour that they want you to beat your projected use on,’ Olivia said.

If you hit the target and beat it, you earn points.

Olivia said she has made huge savings from reducing their projected electricity bill:

‘Our last quarter saw us come in $280 less than expected. I highly recommend this one if you are an Origin customer,’ she said.

Priceline Sister Club

Many out there might be a member of the Priceline Sister Club, but lots don’t necessarily know what that means and how to reap the benefits.

But Olivia said having a Priceline card absolutely does pay off, provided you buy all the cosmetics, personal care and medical products you need from there over anywhere else.

In January, Olivia said she got $34 off her purchases, plus you always get a $10 reward around your birthday.

Referral Bonuses

The final way that Olivia redeems rewards is through referral bonuses and inviting friends to use apps and services and be rewarded with cashback.

‘I have gained over 500,000 Qantas points from sharing signups for American Express and Qantas Well-being,’ Olivia said.

‘Overall, in the month of January our cashback, cash off and points redemption totalled over $1,500 in value.’

Olivia has used this money for family holidays in the past.
