My daughter has given up with school because she wants to be a model

DEAR DEIDRE: MY 14-year-old daughter is desperate to become a model and wants to drop out of school.

She is gorgeous-looking and tall for her age.

Everywhere we go, whether it’s to the hairdresser’s or doctor’s, someone remarks on her looks and tells her to consider the catwalk.

But she is so set on this as a career choice that she has given up with school.

Her excuse is that models don’t need science and maths to succeed.

According to her teachers, she is disruptive and rarely hands her homework in.

She’s meant to be working toward her GCSEs, and as her mum I’m worried she’s going to leave herself with few job options if she doesn’t start putting the work in.

DEIDRE SAYS: It’s great your daughter knows what she wants to do – many don’t work this out until much older.

Make a deal. You will find her an agency but only if you see an improvement in her attitude to school.

Also find interviews, in magazines or on podcasts, with models who talk about working hard in school.

This will give her role models and maybe inspire her.
