My girlfriend thinks she can hang out with any guy she likes – I've had enough

DEAR DEIDRE: JUST because we are not engaged or married, my girlfriend thinks she can hang out with any guy she chooses.

She says she’s entitled to see other guys and have fun, and I should just get used to it.

We’ve been together for two years. I’m 29 and she’s 26.

The other day she came home from work three hours late.

I was starting to get worried but then I peeked through the blind and saw a car dropping her off in the street. A guy was in the driving seat.

When I asked her who he was and where she’d been, she said he was a workmate and they’d gone for a drink.

I told her I wasn’t happy. She said: “Fine – if you don’t like it, then you can leave”.

This always happens when we have a disagreement. She won’t discuss it and threatens to break up with me.

I feel disrespected and confused. What can I do?

DEIDRE SAYS: Your girlfriend is being selfish and unfair. She has made a unilateral decision about what is appropriate in your relationship, regardless of your feelings.

You need to tell her how you feel and have an honest discussion about where the relationship is going. Ask her if she is happy or if she actually wants out.

My support pack Standing Up For Yourself will help you do this.

If things don’t improve, perhaps you need to think about whether this relationship is right for you.
