The image caused waves of delight on social media, with one British TV actor taking time to comment. Emmerdale star Lisa Riley took to Twitter to remark on the picture, which had a number of fans in delight.

She compared the Duchess of Cambridge to the late Princess Diana in the picture.

The image captured the moment the England team scored in the first two and a half minutes of the Euros final.

The little boy cheered before he leaped into his mother’s arms to hug her.

The seven-year-old buried his head in his mum’s.

Kate beamed, appearing to laugh, and wrapped her arms around the elated little boy.

The actress wrote alongside the picture: “I just love this photo so much.

“Mum and son celebrating, you really get a sense of honesty, feeling and truth about this photo.

“Nothing forced, fake, or achieved for personal gain.”

She claimed the hug is “how Princess Diana would have reacted.”

“For this I love it,” she went on. “They just happen to be royal.”

Fans chimed in to praise the image, many more commenting on how the image reminds them of Princess Diana.

One wrote: “Kate reminds me so much of Diana, her love for her children shines through just like her mother-in-law did for her boys. Great to see that the Royals are human too.”

Another wrote: “That’s so true, it’s exactly how Diana would’ve reacted with her boys!”

“So true, particularly the way she’s looking and smiling at the camera, so completely natural,” another said.

Others stopped to praise the Duchess of Cambridge’s mothering.

One wrote: “She is a natural mother.”

Another said: “Such beauty and love in this photo. What a beautiful mum and future Queen she is.”

“Great photo of mum and son enjoying a game of footie!” another said.

A body language expert claimed the Royal Family showed “unity” amid “disappointment” at the Euros final.

Judi James told Express.co.uk the royal parents are hoping their son understand “sport can be tough”.

She told Express.co.uk: “Watching William with little George last night was like watching any other parent having to teach their children the simple fact of life that sport can be tough, especially English football, and that coping with the pain of losing is an important life skill if you’re going to be a fan.”

During an early goal from England, Prince George could be seen celebrating with his parents.
