A thrifty couple managed to plan their entire wedding day for just £3,000 – complete with a £40 dress, a homemade three-tier cake and budget hotel.

Lianne and Jack Berrell, from Leeds, tied the knot on Saturday after a year’s worth of planning which saw then cash in on deals, bargains and the help of their family and friends.

Ms Berrell, 36, has now shared her money-saving tips, including securing a function hall and buffet for £1,600 – and finding her wedding dress on Facebook Marketplace.

The couple also called in some favours from family and friends, with one friend baking their three-tier wedding cake, and a neighbour acting as photographer.

Their string of bargains began when the couple arranged to hire the Adelphi function room for only £200 – adding a buffet for 60 people for another £1,400.

Ms Berrell – who is pregnant – saved extra cash by doing her own hair and make-up.

Remarkably, she managed to snap up her wedding dress for £40 on Facebook.

Their decorations were bought from Amazon, The Range and Shein – all for a bargain price. Ms Berrell even stayed at a low-cost hotel on the night before her wedding.

Explaining their cost-cutting prowess, the new bride said: ‘We had our day on Saturday and we did everything for around £3,000 – and I mean everything!

‘DJ was a family member and we made a Spotify playlist, the photographer was someone who is getting into wedding photography.

‘Bridesmaids’ dresses from Ever Pretty – absolute bargain at £50 each and the quality is amazing. Suits from M&S for the groom, best man and from Next for my son.

‘My wedding band is my husband’s late aunties, so full of sentiment.

‘Honestly, just because things are done on the ‘cheap’, it doesn’t make it any less special, it was all done with love. We had the best day ever and our guests said it was fab.’
