Andrew Roberts, 23, from Manchester, stopped exercising and started gorging on unhealthy food for six months.

He went from exercising five times a week and consuming 2,000 calories of healthy vegan food daily to eating more than 5,000 calories of plant-based junk food, including nuggets, sausage rolls, pizzas and burgers, and snacks such as ice cream.

The fitness fanatic managed to consume 1,000 calories for breakfast alone by gorging on maple crunch cereal.

He said: ‘When I started this journey I never expected to gain this much weight and I can’t lie it is shocking seeing how different I looked six months ago.

‘It has already been a rollercoaster of a journey that has tested me both physically and mentally, but it’s one I’m happy I am doing and I have already learnt so much.

‘There is no doubt in my mind that these next six months are going to be as hard as the last six, if not harder, but I’m ready to give it my all!

He added: ‘The weight gain phase is officially over! A huge amount of weight and inches gained. Now it’s time to lose it all.’

The personal trainer said that his mood and libido plummeted while living off vegan versions of junk food such as pizza, nuggets and chips

By his eighth week of eating unhealthily, the personal trainer had already gained two stone.

Andrew is spending this month transitioning back to a healthy diet, and will then start back at the gym.

He said that the weight gain affected his libido, gave him stretch marks on his thighs, made him snore, hurt his back, and affected his mood and motivation.

It also caused a serious health scare as he rushed to A&E for emergency scans due pains in his heart, arm and leg, which thankfully weren’t serious.

Andrew, who lives with his girlfriend Jess Carolan, 25, decided to gain the weight so he could understand how larger people feel about themselves.

He said the weight gain mission was much to the delight of his girlfriend, adding: ‘She is pretty healthy as well, so she didn’t like the thought of me putting my body through all that, but she has been so supportive.

‘I started snoring and became a bit uncomfortable to sleep in certain positions so I was waking up a lot more and waking her up, so we started sleeping in separate beds.

‘I wasn’t a very fun person to be around when I was eating all that food because I was so exhausted all the time and had no motivation or anything like that.

‘So she’s probably had to put up with worse than me for the last six months.’

He added: ‘I have gained quite bad stretch marks around my thighs and inner thighs, lower back pain and one thing I wasn’t expecting it to effect was libido.

‘Mentally I was exhausted all the time, the motivation was non-existent and my mindset shifted and became quite negative towards things in general.’
