Primark to make major changes to multiple stores – will your local branch be affected? | The Sun

PRIMARK has confirmed it is to make major changes at three of its stores – with more changes still to come.

The retailer has confirmed plans to expand one of its stores and to move two of its existing shops to new locations.

The plans are part of the retailer's £140 million investment into the UK high street.

The retail giant has announced plans to double the size of its store in the Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre in London.

The store will expand from two floors to four – growing from 45,100sq ft to 81,000sq ft.

Primark said the move will create 250 new jobs.

But this isn't the only change Primark fans can expect this year.

The multimillion pound plans will create at least 850 new jobs and increase selling space by more than 160,000sq ft over the next two years across the UK, Primark said.

This will include refurbishing and upgrading its stores on the high street, in shopping centres and in retail parks.

The Sun has asked Primark where these upgrades will be taking place and we'll update this story when we hear back.

So far, it has confirmed that branches in High Wycombe and Bradford will be relocating.

The Primark store in the Kirkgate Centre, Bradford will be moving to The Broadway Shopping Centre.

But the new location for the Primark in High Wycombe, which is currently at The Chilterns, has not yet been confirmed.

The Sun has asked Primark when it expects these relocations to take place.

Primark will also open at least four new stores by the end of 2024. You can see the full list below:

  • Craigavon, Northern Ireland – opened in December 2022
  • Salisbury -due to open by the end of this year
  • Teesside Park, Stockton-on-Tees – no opening date confirmed
  • Bury St Edmunds – no opening date confirmed

Primark is taking over the former Debenhams store in Bury St Edmunds.

The Sun has asked for the proposed locations of the other new stores.

Primark finally dipped its toe into online shopping last year with the launch of click and collect counters in 25 stores.

The trial is so far proving popular with childrenswear and nursery furniture as families can order a wider range than their local store offers.

Primark has 190 shops in the UK and employs 30,000 people and has plans to expand to 530 shops internationally in the next four years.

It has also launched concessions at several of its locations such as a barber, a vintage range, Tasty by Greggs cafes and Disney stores in Belfast, Birmingham and Merry Hill.

It has also recreated the "Central Perk" cafe from the sitcom Friends in its Manchester store.

We visited Primark's new vintage section where shoppers can get designer clothes like Christian Dior for as little as £20.
