Prince Harry Just Said 'The Crown' Is More Truthful Than the Media

Netflix’s The Crown is one of the most compelling depictions of the British royal family ever to be seen on-screen, The series chronicles Queen Elizabeth II’s life and reign. Now, after four seasons, the series is moving into the modern day with Season 4 chronicling Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ marriage.

Thus far, the royal family hasn’t spoken out much about The Crown, though it has been rumored that some royals are major fans of the series. Now, Prince Harry is getting candid about his feelings about the show.

Does Prince Harry watch ‘The Crown’?

It appears that Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex have watched earlier seasons of The Crown but have not seen the most recent season since it touches on the Prince and Princess of Wales.

“I know Harry was certainly aware of the series and I don’t know if he watched the full series but he’s certainly taken a look,” Finding Freedom writer Omid Scobie told ABC. “I also remember speaking to an aide of his who said that even if he was to watch the full series he would always tune out the second it got anywhere near his era.”

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s story won’t appear on ‘The Crown’

While many of the royals have seen The Crown including Queen Elizabeth and there is obviously a wealth of material to mind when it comes to Meghan and Harry’s story, including their time as royals and Megxit, the final two seasons of the series won’t reach The Sussexes.

Creator Peter Morgan has said that he adheres to a “20-year-rule,” meaning that he will not tackle any of the royal family events that have happened in the last 20 years.

“Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I don’t know what their journey is or how it will end,” Morgan told The Hollywood Reporter in 2020. One wishes some happiness, but I’m much more comfortable writing about things that happened at least 20 years ago.”

Prince Harry says ‘The Crown’ is more truthful than the media

It looks like Prince Harry has seen more than a few episodes of the sweeping Netflix series. Though there were major calls for Netflix to add a disclaimer onto the more recent season of The Crown which depicted the fraught relationship between the prince’s parents Princess Diana and Prince Charles, the Duke of Sussex has his own thoughts about that.

During a surprise appearance on with James Corden, Prince Harry gave some insight into his feelings about the award-winning series.

“They don’t pretend to be news, it’s fictional. But it’s loosely based on the truth,” he said. “Of course it’s not strictly accurate. But loosely, it gives you a rough idea about what that lifestyle, what the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, what can come from that.” It appears that the prince’s issues are with the British media.

“I am way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family, or my wife, or myself, because it’s the difference between – that is obviously fiction, take it how you will, but this is being reported on as fact because you are supposedly news. I have a real issue with that,” he added.
