Princess Eugenie broke royal protocol twice when announcing birth of her son

Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank welcomed their son into the world on 9 February.

However, how the duo announced the news to the wider world, was actually at odds with royal protocol.

The throughly modern princess revealed the news via Instagram, sharing a snap of herself holding the tiny newborn’s hand as her husband gentle clasped his wrist.

She captioned the photograph with blue love hearts and exclamation marks.

This is was a step away from traditional royal protocol as usually newborn babies make their first appearance outside of the hospital.

Eugenie’s mother Sarah Ferguson did this, as did Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cambridge.

However Meghan Markle also broke with tradition in this regard, when she and her husband Prince Harry organised a photo-call a few days after the birth.

Eugenie's second break with tradition came in regards to the fact that the announcement of the baby’s birth came 10 hours later, whereas most royal couples share the news much sooner.

The Royal Family also released a statement announcing that the 30-year-old daughter of Prince Andrew had welcomed a baby boy.

It read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie was safely delivered of a son today, 9th February 2021, at 0855hrs at The Portland Hospital. Jack Brooksbank was present.

“The baby weighs 8lbs 1oz.”

Next to a picture of Eugenie and Jack on their wedding day, the caption continued: “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Duke of York, Sarah, Duchess of York, and Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank have been informed and are delighted with the news.

“This is Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank’s first child, The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York’s first grandchild, and the ninth great-grandchild for The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”
