Princess Leonor of Spain looked radiant in white as she joined her parents to visit the military academy she will attend for the first time.

The 17-year-old heir to the throne matched her mother in a simple monochrome gown as she stepped out at ‘Academia General Militar’ military academy in Zaragoza.

As she proudly stood beside her mother Queen Letizia and father King Felipe, Leonor stunned in a white summery dress with black polka dots and a sash.

The dress, which had a high-neck, echoed her mother’s chic style and she was Letizia’s double as she stood beside the Spanish Queen.

The appearance comes as Leonor – who just graduated from UWC Atlantic College in Wales – known as ‘Hippy Hogwarts – prepares to start her military training in August.

Letizia, 50, also donned a white dress with a more structured shape, belted at the waist and with peplum detailing.

Leonor is set to start her military training before the end of the summer in August.

Whereas many of her peers will go off to university, the eldest daughter of King Felipe and Queen Letizia will return to Spain to begin training.

Spanish defence minister Margarita Robles confirmed Princess Leonor of Asturias’s next move earlier this year to society bible Tatler.

The training will include stints in the armed forces, the Spanish navy and the air force.

Speaking in March, Ms Robles confirmed: ‘In due course, the commander-in-chief of the armed forces will be a woman, and in recent years we have been making a very important effort to incorporate women into the armed forces.’

The Princess will begin her training at Army Military Academy in Zaragoza before going to naval school, and will complete her three years at the General Air Academy.

In September last year the Spanish palace announced that Princess Leonor will go to university to study law once her three years of military training have been completed.

While Leonor’s choice of university is unknown, the Princess’s academic background already bears a resemblance to that of her father King Felipe.

After graduating from high school at Lakefield College in Canada, Felipe returned to Spain and attended the General Military Academy of Zaragozo, and went on to study at the Naval Military School in Marín.

He ended his training with a stint at the General Air Academy in San Javier.

His also completed his military training with a stint on the shop Juan Sebastián Elcano aged 18 in 1987, and went on to study law at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Leonor’s appearance comes as she begins to step into the limelight ahead of her three years of military training, which will commence in September.

In recent days she has appeared with her younger sister, Infanta Sofia, 16, as the sisters joined their parents to attend the Princess of Girona Foundation Awards at the Camiral Caldes de Malavella Hotel.

Leonor, who is first in line to the Spanish throne, made a speech at the event, taking centre stage as she prepares for a life in the spotlight.

Leonor is looking every bit the mature royal ahead of her trip to military college in September where she will study for three years

Leonor was every bit the mature royal as she stepped out with her family.

In what appeared to be what show of unity between the current and future monarch, the teen’s elegant puff-sleeved teal dress perfectly matched her father’s King Felipe’s tie.

King Felipe is the honorary chairman of the organisation on behalf of Princess Leonor.

The organisation supports young people in their professional and personal development.

It has has an interest in identifying young people with talent who can act as role models for other young people – while launching programmes to improve their employability.

Leonor wore her tresses in a simple low-ponytail, which showed off her glitzy diamond earrings.

The future Queen of Spain opted for more of a full-on makeup look, donning eyeliner, shimmery eyeshadow, and lip gloss.

Her ever supportive sister, Sofia, wore a glittery silver short-sleeved gown which gathered at the waist.

Although Infanta Sofia is still a royal, she does not hold the title of Princess as she is second born and therefore not the heir to the throne.

Before the awards ceremony yesterday, the royals listened to the presentation of the AmplificARTE project, which is an initiative of the Princess of Girona Foundation.

The family looked united as they all donned the colour blue as they focused intently on what was said.

Earlier this week, Leonor and Sofia made a rare joint appearance without their parents as they attended a workshop on innovation and creativity – suggesting they are one step further into becoming Spanish working royals.
