Reservoir Docs to Launch Sales at Cannes for Documentary About Oscar-Winning Cinematographer Philippe Rousselot (EXCLUSIVE)

Reservoir Docs has announced its new project, a feature-length documentary about Oscar-winning cinematographer Philippe Rousselot called “A Look Through His Lens.” The independent international sales company will finance and launch worldwide sales for the film at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

“A Look Through His Lens” will cover Rousselot’s life, career and cinematography techniques, which he cultivated as a director of photography for both film and digital formats. Furthermore, it will dive into the impact of his contribution to the Cinema du Look movement and how his use of image and color captivated directors worldwide. In a statement, the filmmakers said their “goal is to create a narrative that is archival and educational in nature that can be accessed for generations to come.” It’s part of Reservoir Doc’s mission to specialize in documentaries about cinema and look at how cinema is a strong reflection of our society.

Oscar winner Kim Basinger will serve as executive producer, who Rousselot collaborated with on 2016 action-comedy “The Nice Guys.” Gregory Hoblit and Matthew Berkowitz will co-direct, with documentarian Lynne Littman will moderate all of the film’s interviews. Debrah Farentino, Autumn MacIntosh and Oren Segal are set to produce.

Over his career, Rousselot’s has worked with a slew of acclaimed directors, such as Jean-Jacques Beineix, John Boorman, Jean-Jacques Annaud, Stephen Frears, Milos Forman, Philip Kaufman, Robert Redford, Tim Burton, Neil Jordan, Tom Hanks, Guy Ritche and Denzel Washington. His film resume includes credits on “Interview with the Vampire,” “Dangerous Liaisons, Sommersby,” “The People vs. Larry Flynt,” “Planet of the Apes,” “Antwone Fisher, Sherlock Holmes,” “Larry Crowne” and “Big Fish.” In 1992, the French cinematographer won the Academy Award for best cinematography for “A River Runs Through It.”
