Restaurant owner gives VERY brutally honest reviews of his own dishes

‘Our food is not that good’: Chinese restaurant owner wins legions of fans by putting VERY honest reviews of his own dishes on the menu

  • Feigang Fei, owner at Aunt Dai in Montreal, Canada, gives reviews of his dishes
  • Left brutally honest comment saying that the Orange Beef is ‘not THAT good’
  • Added Singapore Noodles have ‘curry flavor’ but don’t expect it to be ‘SO tasty’

A Chinese restaurant owner has won a legion of fans after giving brutally honest reviews of his own dishes.

Instead of letting customers make up their mind on the quality of his meals, Feigang Fei, owner of Aunt Dai in Montreal, Canada, has taken the unique approach of offering his own verdict first – no matter how negative it may be.

Taking to Twitter, Kim Belair shared a selection of her favorite reviews alongside the caption: ‘Aunt Dai is my favourite Chinese restaurant in Montreal, but the REAL treat is the menu, featuring extremely honest commentary from the owner.’

Among some of his most critical include that the Orange Beef is ‘not THAT good’ and ‘it’s your call’ if you decide to order it.

Speaking of the Orange Beef , the restaurant owner admitted that it is ‘not THAT good’ and ‘it’s your call’ if you order it

While it’s known that a good chef tastes his own food, Feigang admitted there are some dishes on the menu he has not yet had the chance to try.

Speaking of the Satay sauce beef, which is one the menu for $13.99 (£10.28), Feigang penned: ‘This is new on our menu. I did NOT have a chance to try this one yet. According to a lot of customers, this one is very popular.

‘I still don’t have chance to taste it. Looks like I should spend more time eating in my own restaurant.’

Another dish the restaurant owner admitted to not being a fan of was his Singapore Noodles.

‘It has curry flavor, don’t expect it to be SO tasty but it’s safe choice and make you happy,’ he wrote.

When it came to the satay sauce beef (pictured), Feigang admitted it’s a popular choice, but he hasn’t had time to try them yet

The brutally honest restaurant owner did go on to praise a dish made from potatoes, chili and vinegar (pictured)

The restaurant owner said he would always order this dish while he was in China, but admitted he wasn’t a ‘huge fan’ of his version (pictured)

However, not all of the reviews were negative – as the restaurant owner went on to praise a dish made from potatoes, chili and vinegar.

‘This plate will show you how Chinese cuisine can do with our beloved potato outside of French fries, mash potato, chips,’ Feigang wrote. ‘This potato Julian dish is very very popular in china. Let’s salute potato.’

He also went on to say that another dish, comprised of pork, wood ear, bamboo shoots, and green and red peppers, is the ‘number one choice dish ordered by Chinese customers across the whole of China’ – but that he’s not impressed with his own version.

‘When I was in China and went to a restaurant, I always ordered this dish,’ he admitted. ‘I am not a huge fan of our version to be honest. But don’t get me wrong, the plate at our restaurant is very tasty too. It’s just different to those where I went to university.

And many social media users were quick to comment under the initial post – with many praising Feigang for his candid reviews.

‘I now must eat here at some point in my life. Like I will get a passport, wait for Covid to be contained, exchange my US dollars for Canadian currency and make a trip to try this charming place,’ wrote one.

A second added: ‘Imagine how thrilled I am to learn not only of this restaurant’s existence, but to know it’s only a few blocks away. Yippee!’

The initial post was inundated with comments from social media users keen to try out the restaurant (pictured)
