Royal family dress ‘to reflect Philip’s understated modest style at memorial’

The Royal Family are gathering together today to pay tribute to Prince Philip, nearly a year on from his sad death in April 2021.

After it was confirmed that The Queen will attend the special Service of Thanksgiving, there has been speculation over whether herself and the rest of the family will follow traditions and wear black for the ceremony.

However, they have thrown out the style rulebook in honour to pay a touching tribute to The Duke of Edinburgh through their purposeful choice of outfits.

When it comes to royal funerals and memorial ceremonies, attendees are usually expected to wear formal black attire which is a typical style protocol within the Royal Family traditions.

However, for the service, which is a celebration of the Duke's life, attendees have been told to wear "lounge suits and day dresses" to reflect the Duke's “understated and modest” style, reported The Telegraph.

This decision has also reportedly been made in light of Prince Andrew losing his military titles amid his sexual abuse case and subsequent settlement.

Normally, the male members of the family sport their best military uniforms, however, this was avoided at Prince Philip's funeral as Prince Harry would not have been able to wear one, having stepped down from his senior duties prior to the event.

Instead of this we saw the men opt for regular suits and instead adorn their jackets with medals.

Princess Anne, who was seen wearing her own military uniform at the Queen Mother’s funeral in 2002, donned a long black dress coat and hat, which displayed her collection of medals.

Inside Prince Philip's sentimental jewellery gifts to The Queen including engagement ring

At Philip's funeral, Kate paid tribute to the Duke by wearing the Queen's pearl choker, that was once borrowed by Princess Diana as an act of respect.

With Her Majesty making an appearance we are also sure to see herself paying tribute to her late husband with pieces from her incredible collection of jewels.

Her Majesty and Philip's four child, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew are all thought to be heading to the memorial service too along with Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips.
