The Brit Awards 2023 saw some memorable red carpet looks. We had Jessie J’s cut-out baby bump dress, Leigh-Anne Pinnock’s outer space-inspired hairstyle and Megan McKenna’s “Jessie from Toy Story” hair transformation. Perhaps taking the biscuit for the most talked about red carpet appearance, though, is Sam Smith.

The singer rocked up to the Brit Awards wearing, what looked like, an inflatable latex jumpsuit. The suit was form-fitting around their chest, while the arms and legs of the design featured large air bubbles. It’s hard to describe the exact look, you really just have to look at the pictures to get a good idea of what we’re talking about, but some Twitter users have done their best to find their own niche comparisons…

“Will they float away?” asked one, clearly worried the singer would drift off like a balloon.

“The last time I saw someone with a similar-looking outfit was when they didn’t want to pay the luggage fee on a Ryanair flight,” jested another.

A third weighed in: “If you want to make a statement and stand out…. #SamSmith is on the mark with this look #Brits2023.”

Sam tweeted out some professional red carpet snaps shortly after disappearing from the red carpet (hopefully with their feet safely on the ground) to find their seat inside. Helpfully, they included a few more designer details for those keen to know the mastermind behind this internet-breaking jumpsuit.

“Brits 2023. Outfit by HARRI and custom @MaisonValentino by Pierpaolo Piccioli,” Sam wrote.

All-in-all, it’s probably not a look we’ll be copying for afternoon tea with the mother-in-law, but there’s no denying Sam Smith really does know how to dress to get the whole of social media talking.
