The Queen owns her very own McDonalds branch complete with drive-thru

It's no secret that The Queen owns an incredible amount of property, but it might as a surprise that she owns her very own McDonald's branch.

Her Majesty, 95, boasts a £13billion property empire, which includes everything from historic castles to vast amounts of land across the country – she even owns all of the swans in the UK.

Now it has been revealed that her excessive empire also includes a branch of the popular fast-food chain, McDonald's.

The royal fast-food branch isn't far from the Cotswolds, and sits amongst a string of popular retailers and eaterie sat the Banbury Gateway Shopping Park, located in Oxfordshire.

Banbury Gateway Shopping Park sits on land that is part of the the Crown Estate, making it part of the Queen's sprawling property empire.

Interestingly, this isn't the first time Her Majesty has been the owner of a McDonald's.

She used to own the land upon which a branch was built on Bath Road Retail Park in Slough, but eventually sold the park in 2016 for an eye-watering £177million.

Queen Elizabeth doesn't directly make any money from her fast-food ventures, with all money made from the Crown Estate going to The Treasury for the benefit of the Nation, as opposed to the royal family themselves.

All property owned by the Sovereign will be passed down to the heir nonetheless, which means Prince Charles will become the owner of the royal McDonald's branch once he becomes king.

While it remains unknown as to whether Elizabeth enjoys a McDonald's herself, it is understood that she is known to enjoy chips every now and again.

She reportedly enjoys a portion of chips as a treat when she is staying at her Scottish home, Balmoral, as she dines from the local chippy for dinner. A footman is allegedly sent out to collect her meal from a nearby town, Ballater, as first reported by The Sun.

The revelation comes as Her Majesty has apparently told the rest of the royal family that 'she's feeling far better' ahead of hosting Christmas at Sandringham.

It has been reported that she has told family members she is “very much looking forward” to hosting her traditional Christmas lunch at Sandringham this year, following her recent back sprain.

A source told The Mirror: “The Queen has told everyone she is feeling far better of late and is very much looking forward to welcoming them for Christmas.

“Like many other families, this will be the first time Her Majesty can gather with her extended family after being kept apart for so long due to the coronavirus pandemic.”
