These are the most successful prompts to add to your Hinge profile

People are becoming impatient over the ubiquitousness of dating profiles in 2023, and honestly, we get it.

Oh, your ideal Sunday is a nice walk followed by a Sunday roast or a pint is it, Daniel?

And your most controversial opinion is that you like pineapple on pizza? Join the other 15,000 people with the exact same opinion.

These days, a couple of good pictures and a short bio with your age, height and job title simply won’t do the trick anymore, which is why Hinge’s profile prompts were such a gamechanger when they were introduced.

But, choosing a boring prompt on the likes of Hinge — or worse, a basic answer — can be the difference between whether or not you land a date.

Thankfully, Hinge has done the research for us and analysed the prompts that are most likely to, at the very least, lead to a conversation.

The top five are:

According to Logan Ury, Hinge’s director of relationship science, the most successful prompts are the ones that help you find what you’re looking for and the ones that allow you to express yourself

‘One of the hottest dating terms of the year was “hardballing”: being clear from the beginning about what you’re looking for in a relationship,’ she says.

‘This isn’t about being needy. It’s about saving time by making sure you are on the same page as the people you’re dating.’

Prompts such as ‘the one thing you should know about me is’, ‘I want someone who’, ‘I’m looking for’, and  ‘this year, I really want to’, are ideal for laying your cards out.

If you know what you want, let people know — there’s no point wasting time in this economy.

Open-ended prompts that allow you to express yourself have also proven to be successful.

This is because you can take your response in whatever direction you want to and get the chance to share your values or get vulnerable, says Logan.

‘These Prompts help you give someone a sense of what it would be like to date you, by painting a picture of who you are and what brings you joy,’ she says.

‘Telling someone your specific quirks or pleasures can help create a vivid image of who you are and help them picture what a relationship with you would be like.

‘One of my key tips to designing a great dating app profile is to think through three things you want to express about yourself and use your photos and prompts to get those messages across.’
