Viewers of Channel 4 ‘s Undercover Police: Hunting Paedophiles were left ‘disgusted’ after a pervert who was caught with sweets and sex toys while on the way to meet a ’13-year-old girl’ was sentenced to just three years in prison.

The documentary followed an unidentified officer who was disguised on social media as 13-year-old ‘Keira’ from Essex in a bid to catch a man intent on sexually abusing several children.

Within minutes of creating an account on a social media site for teenagers, ‘Keira’ was bombarded with highly sexualised messages from other users, many of whom were adult men – including Martin Latimer, then 35, from Hove, East Sussex.

It wasn’t long before Martin had arranged to travel to a hotel in Basildon where he planned to meet ‘Keira’ – so the investigation team headed down to arrest him.

But despite confessing to having Easter eggs, popcorn, a vibrator and butt plug on him, he insisted that he had just planned to ‘watch TV’ with Keira.

And viewers were horrified to learn that Martin, who pleaded guilty to several charges including arranging a child sex offence, was sentenced to serve just three years in prison.

‘Three years is a joke, he will do a year and a half and then get out to do it again. Chemical castration has to be part of the punishment,’ wrote one, while a second penned: ‘3 f***** years?? I have no doubt that if this was real life that the girl wouldn’t of got out of that air B&B alive!!!!! F**** horrified!! Absolutely disgusting. What a joke of a sentencing!’

In last night’s episode of Undercover Police: Hunting Paedophiles, an unidentified officer who was disguised on social media as a 13-year-old girl from Essex called ‘Keira’, drew the attention of Martin Latimer. Pictured, being arrested

Those who tuned in were left horrified when Martin was caught with Easter eggs and a bunch of sex toys on him as he went to meet ‘Keira’ (pictured)

During the episode, Martin Latimer, who had a previous conviction of harassment in 2008, was caught exchanging sexualised messages with ‘Keira.’

The undercover cop explained: ‘We’ve quite quickly this morning got into sexualised chat. He’s brought the conversation round to potentially me masturbating for him.

‘He’s been quite graphic, What he wants me to do, how he wants to do it. And he’s indicated he’s masturbating at the same time as well.’

In one message, Martin wrote: ‘I’m laying down now to unbutton my jeans’ and in another, he penned: ‘You playing down there?’

MARTIN LATIMER’S CRIME

At Basildon Crown Court on 28 May 2019, Martin Latimer admitted to facilitating and arranging a child sex offence, causing a child to watch a sexual act and engaging a child in sexual chat.

Latimer of Connaught Road, Hove, East Sussex, was sentenced to three years in prison.

A month prior to his arrest, Latimer befriended what he believed to be a 13-year-old girl online.

Over a five-week period, Latimer exchanged sexual messages and sent naked photographs and videos of himself performing sexual acts.

He booked and paid for a bed and breakfast and travelled to Pitsea by train carrying a bag containing sex toys, chocolate and an unopened packet of girls’ underwear.

Latimer was arrested at The Nazeing, Basildon.

PC Adam Colbear said: ‘Latimer travelled to Essex with every intention of engaging in sexual activity with a child he believed to be just 13 years of age.

‘He researched, booked and paid for a bed and breakfast and embarked on a two-hour train journey to meet the girl he had been grooming for a number of weeks.

A NSPCC spokesman commented: ‘Latimer set out to groom and sickeningly abuse a 13-year-old girl showing just how easy it is for predators to target vulnerable children online.

‘Last year in Essex, police recorded 170 sexual offences against children with an online element, which is why we are calling for statutory regulation of social media to compel tech companies to protect children on their sites as a priority.’

‘Latimer has shown no remorse for his actions and he will now be put on the Sex Offenders’ Register for life.’

And when ‘Keira’ replied ‘yh,’ Martin responded: ‘Good little girl.’

He also wrote: ‘Would so rather it was there to see that w** little nearly hairless vagina,’ before sending the undercover cop a video of him masturbating.’

Cops were soon able to identify Martin, who wasn’t a current registered sex offender, after he sent over images of himself.

‘Throughout the conversation there’s been a constant thread referring to my age, immaturity, even down to my childish knickers that I wear,’ the undercover cop explained.

‘He likes the fact that I’m childish and thirteen-years-old. That clearly appears to be a driver for him.’

Taking to Twitter, one person penned: ‘This is tough to watch, no regret in his face at all. Disgusting’ (pictured)

Finally, cops headed down and arrested Martin outside the hotel and once taken back to the station, he was asked to explain what he had been up to.

Figures suggest 300,000 Britons have a sexual interest in children

Worrying figures suggest some 300,000 Britons have a sexual interest in children, amid growing availability of illegal material online.

With increasing availability of such material, Simon Bailey, lead for child protection at the National Police Chiefs’ Council, added that grooming was also on the rise and said arresting hundreds of sex offenders every month has little effect.

The explosion in online child sexual abuse has only worsened during the pandemic with reports of obscene material more than doubling globally to over four million in the first month of lockdown in 2020.

In April of the same year, there were nearly nine million attempts in the UK to access child sexual abuse websites which had been previously blocked by the Internet Watch Foundation.

‘I arranged to meet someone who was thirteen, Martin explained. ‘We were planning to meet and to be honest, we were probably going to watch TV and see where things went. I would have been fine just talking.’

And when he was asked whether he was hoping something sexual was going to happen, Martin replied: ‘No, not really, no.’

‘I’m attracted to children because I get on with them – it’s not complicated. It’s not a grown up.

‘Grown ups judge you for everything. I’m more of a loner, and alone because I tend not to get on with grown up people.’

Martin was then asked to tell the cops what he had brought with him for his meeting with ‘Keira.’

‘Err I bought Easter eggs and popcorn, which are obviously food and then a vibrator and butt plug just so I had them,’ he said, before being asked whether his intention was to use them on the 13-year-old.

‘My intention was more to have them if it came up, which obviously it wouldn’t have so,’ he said. ‘But I still wouldn’t have done anything if it wasn’t wanted.’

When probed what he would’ve done if she had wanted it, Martin replied: ‘Then I probably would and I can’t say I have lots of respect for the laws.

‘Yeah, I really don’t care, but, yeah, if it was wanted I probably would, but I wouldn’t have forced it.’

The police officer went on to question whether this was the case even though he knew she was 13, to which Martin responded: ‘Even though, yes. But laws, I don’t really care about laws. I feel about what feels right to me.’

Martin went on to say he doesn’t really consider himself a risk to children, adding: ‘Well I say that under how I am, not your laws. I would never do anything to anyone that they didn’t want and weren’t comfortable with.

The police officer added: ‘Even if it’s voluntary, it’s still abuse.’

And horrified viewers were quick to take to Twitter to comment on the revelation, with one writing: ‘It’s absolutely disgusting and sickening,’

A second penned: ‘Oh my god!! Those messages are disgusting,’ while a third added: ‘This is tough to watch, no regret in his face at all. Disgusting.’
