'WandaVision': Is the 'Age of Ultron' Suggestion After Each Episode a Major Clue?

By now, WandaVision theories are kind of getting out of hand. Some might go into tinfoil hat territory and some kind of come out of left field. But you can’t really blame fans for getting caught up in all of the Easter eggs that exist within the series and how mysterious it is going forward. But did Disney+ hint at one theory about a previous villain coming back right in its menu with Avengers: Age of Ultron? [Spoiler alert: Spoilers ahead for WandaVision].

Fans noticed that after each new ‘WandaVision’ episode, Disney+ recommended ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’

With the rise of streaming platforms like Netflix, binge-watching television has become very popular. Netflix shows drop whole seasons at once, so the concept of a streaming platform dropping a week-to-week show is not as mainstream.

Since the end — or death — of Game of Thrones, there hadn’t been a big global show that everyone was watching and talking about weekly. But with Disney+ shows like The Mandalorian and now WandaVision, weekly shows becoming a major social media event has become a thing again. Maybe not to the same degree (yet), but with this schedule, the public is relegated to talking about only the episodes they have on hand, and not all of them at once.

And with that, at the end of each episode, there isn’t another one that Disney+ can suggest. The “Next Episode” or “Watch Next” option has to be something other than WandaVision because viewers are all caught up after watching the most recent one. And viewers noticed that the popular suggestion was Avengers: Age of Ultron

They go so far as to say “read the room,” because with the emotional toll WandaVision is causing viewers, having to go back and watch Age of Ultron might not be the move. It’s a suggestion that makes sense; it’s the movie where Wanda (Elizabeth Olsen), Pietro (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), and Vision (Paul Bettany) are introduced. But is there another reason Disney suggests it?

Is this ‘Age of Ultron’ suggestion actually a hint at a growing fan theory?

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its end credit scenes. It’s now common knowledge that you absolutely cannot leave the theater before the credits are finished, otherwise, you might miss a vital scene. These end credit scenes range from silly moments where a huge ant plays the drums to more pivotal scenes like Thanos putting on the Infinity Gauntlet for the first time.

With WandaVision, it’s in a very unique spot in the MCU. For one, it’s the first Disney+ series in the franchise and the first series starring two Avengers that will directly tie-in with the movies. So fans wondered if the famous end credit scene would appear after each episode. Unfortunately, that’s not the case, and it’s just 10-minutes of credits. But what if this suggestion is the end credit hint?

What if Marvel, in lieu of a sneak peek of what’s next after each episode, the Avengers: Age of Ultron suggestion is cluing fans in to what comes next on WandaVision. The suggestion might be unassuming, as stated above, but what if they’re trolling fans a bit? With some fans posting convincing theories, it could be a major clue at who the real Big Bad of WandaVision is: Ultron.

Could Ultron actually be ‘alive’?

Ok, talk about tinfoil hat, this might seem out there. However, there are some interesting things that can back this one up. For one, how would Ultron even be “alive” after we saw Vision get rid of him?

In Avengers: Age of Ultron, Tony Stark and Bruce Banner talk about Ultron and they mention the fact that he can be anywhere. He’s essentially a program, and can go from vessel to vessel. That’s the whole point and Ultron displays that to Natasha when he takes her hostage and kills one body and he’s in another. That’s also why he’s able to move his consciousness into the last bot at the very end before Vision destroys that too.

However, with that said, Ultron very well could have transferred himself somewhere else right before Vision got rid of him. He’s a part of the internet or tech and can be “backed up,” so to speak. While Vision did seem to block Ultron’s capabilities to link to the internet during their battle, wouldn’t Ultron have the forethought to do something like back himself up? Or as one TikTok user pointed out, what if there’s a part of Ultron laying dormant in a section of Vision’s mind?

Project Cataract could hold some answers too

Another TikTok user pointed out how Darcy found Project Cataract at the end of Episode 6. While we don’t know what that means yet, a cataract impairs someone’s vision. So maybe this project is about trying to fix Vision. Who would want to fix Vision but Ultron, since the whole point of Vision was to house Ultron in the first place. And with the Mind Stone gone, and Vision’s essence gone, he’s vacant right now. Hence why S.W.O.R.D. might have been working on him.

Why would S.W.O.R.D. try and bring back a murderous robot that tried to destroy the planet? If that is what they were doing — we don’t know yet — they might not know the extent of what they’re doing. But that doesn’t really seem likely, so that might be a blind spot in this theory.

Some fans on Reddit also have clues, like the fact that Wanda and Pietro are so closely linked to Ultron, and Ultron could be feeding off of Wanda’s magic. There are also ties to the comics where Ultron can morph into older technology, which could play into the old airwaves Wanda’s using for her broadcast.

There is a lot more to this theory, but if this does end up being true, it’s very possible Disney+ and Marvel were giving fans a flashing arrow to the truth the whole time.
