It was more like a wheel of unfortunate events.
Longtime “Wheel of Fortune” host Pat Sajak accidentally gave away the answer to a puzzle during last Thursday’s broadcast, People reported.
Sajak, 74, was speaking to a contestant trying to figure out a puzzle that had just six of 12 letters revealed.
“Yikes,” Sajak said of the puzzle. “Well, I’d rather be standing here than there, quite frankly.”
As it turned out, “Quite Frankly” was the answer.
However, the contestant did not seem to catch Sajak’s gaffe and failed to get the right answer before time expired.
At the end of the show, Sajak, who has hosted “Wheel of Fortune” since 1982, addressed the slip while speaking to hostess Vanna White.
“I wonder how many people at home caught it,” Sajak said. “But, in setting up the thing, you know, there weren’t many letters up there and I said, ‘I’d rather be here than up there, quite frankly’ — which was the puzzle. But it goes to show you that people are concentrating and they’re not paying any attention to me.”
Sajak added that the contestant had “no reason” to have solved the puzzle correctly despite his slip-up. The game show host continued to jokingly chide himself for the error.
“It’s funny what your … mouth will say when your brain says, ‘You shouldn’t do that,’” Sajak added.
Sajak quipped that he and White will, “quite frankly, see you next time” to end the broadcast.
