Hugh Grant and Elizabeth Hurley broke up over two decades ago, but the actor is finally coming clean about why he cheated.

The 60-year-old said he was in a “bad frame of mind” over his 1995 movie “Nine Months” when he infamously got caught with prostitute Divine Brown.

“I was about to launch my first Hollywood film – my timing was impeccable. My problem was – that was my first Hollywood film and I’d just been to see it,” Grant said on Thursday’s episode of Marc Maron’s “WTF” podcast.

He continued, “The film was about to come out a week or two after that, and I had a bad feeling about it. I went to see a screening. Everyone in it was brilliant, but I was so atrocious that I was not in a good frame of mind.”

Grant decided to have a “Ken Russell kind of lunch” and soon found himself getting arrested for reportedly paying Brown $60 to perform oral sex on him in a car in Los Angeles.

He was ultimately ordered to pay a $1,000 fine and attend an AIDS education program as punishment.

“Last night I did something completely insane,” he said in a statement (via the New York Times) at the time. “I have hurt people I love and embarrassed people I work with. For both things I am more sorry than I can ever possibly say.”

Grant and Hurley, 55, dated for more than a decade.

A rep for Hurley didn’t immediately get back to us.
