‘My grandma did this and we got food poisoning for weeks,’ claimed a different user.

A fifth comment read, ‘I assume she doesn’t have a clue about how much bacteria is in the washer.’

‘It would literally be cleaner to just not wash the greens,’ said someone else.

However, others stuck up for Ashley and claimed they too used their washing machines to clean their veggies.

‘This is how my mom did it back in the day, love it!’ wrote one supporter.

‘I’m not gonna lie y’all my grandma be doing this and I still be eating it,’ added another person.

‘It really does clean your greens really well,’ insisted a different user.

In a follow-up video, Ashley addressed all the backlash she received over her idea, calling the negative reaction ‘so funny.’

‘I think it’s so funny,’ she said. ‘The response is hilarious.’

She explained, ‘This is kale that I’ve grown [myself]. I was getting really annoyed with having to wash it. I harvested it all at once and so I just thought, “I’ll put it in the washing machine.”‘

In one last video, Ashley claimed that it didn’t cause any negative effects to her or to her washing machine, revealing that she has since washed her clothes in it, and they all came out smelling ‘really good.’

‘I’m happy to report that I have still been doing laundry in that same washing machine and my clothes still smell really good,’ she said.

‘I haven’t had any trouble. I don’t know why everyone’s washing machines are full of mold and bacteria, but mine’s not.

‘The outside might have dirt, I don’t typically wipe the outside but the inside is clean.’
