Women have revealed the dramatic changes they made in their lives after ditching hormonal birth control – with dozens admitting it ‘ruined’ their relationships.

The confessions come after a comedian went viral for admitting she was looking forward to meeting ‘the real her’ once she quit the pill.

Her audience quickly got on board with the joke with one admitting to ending six-year relationship and another claiming her sense of smell completely changed.

But it appears there is science to back up the ‘new me, no birth control’ joke.

Hormone coach Emily Detrick said choosing a partner while on the pill may affect a woman’s marital satisfaction later – citing a study in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

‘When the researchers followed 118 newlywed couples for four years, they found that women who went off of hormonal birth control after getting hitched experienced a drop in relationship happiness,’ she said.

The coach, who filmed her live reactions to the comic’s joke, looked shocked when the audience began shouting.

But agreed with their revelations and explained why breakups are often the result of going off birth control.

‘During our fertile window, women tend to be more attracted to “manly” men, think more chiseled features, more symmetrical face (almost Ken doll-ish) this is because these features would indicate better genetic fitness aka better equipped offspring,’ she said.

‘During our non-fertile window (a state we perpetually experience on birth control) we tend to be attracted to a more stable/provider type man.’

But when they are on birth control women tend to choose men with ‘more feminine features’.

‘AND based on smell/pheromones, a partner with a CLOSER genetic makeup to ours which gives offspring a less favorable genetic makeup as we ideally want a mate with the most opposite genes,’ she added.

Emily’s fans quickly left their own comments on the thread with many admitting they also ended long term relationships.

‘It helped me see a man who doesn’t want to address his trauma was not someone I need to save. It’s just another attachment! I seriously think being off the pill gave me more clarity in my dating life,’ one woman said.

‘I was on birth control to get rid of my acne and was very common for me to get into relationships/situationships but noticed that the pills were making me crazy so I stopped and then suddenly men were no longer attractive anymore,’ one woman said.

Another woman said she broke up with her partner the day after getting her IUD removed, and he wasn’t shocked.

Another woman said she was great friends with one man whilst on the pill, but realised they were compatible as lovers once she went off birth control.

‘For me it was like a fog was lifted,’ said another.

Some said they were even more attracted to their husbands once they went off birth control.

‘Birth control wrecked my body enough so thank God I still love my husband off of it and am probably even more attracted to him now,’ one woman said.

‘I met my husband before bc then I got on birth control one year after we started dating and then got off it like five years ago now and I’m more attracted to my husband,’ one woman said.

Adding: ‘Funny thing is when I was on bc I use to think he wasn’t stable enough cause he could never find a job he liked after the navy and once I was off bc I didn’t feel that pressure, I ended up being a better partner for it.’

Others said their mental health improved when they got off the pill.

‘I stopped taking it over three months ago, my depression had stopped,’ one woman said.

While one woman said she dropped 20kilos without trying and others admitted to switching careers.
