DEAR DEIDRE: THE news about the outbreak of war in Ukraine sent me into a spiral of anxiety.
I wrote to you, because as a 28-year-old man, I wasn’t able to talk to any of my friends about my fears.
I knew they’d just laugh at me and call me a wuss.
But I couldn’t sleep. I would lie awake at night, working myself into a frenzy, convinced the world would end in nuclear devastation.
Even if I tried not to think about it, news of the war was inescapable – in the media and on social media.
You reassured me that I wasn’t going mad, and made me feel you understood my worries.
You said it was in everybody’s interests to avoid more conflict and a possible nuclear war.
And you advised me to try to limit the amount of time I spent online.
You also sent me your support pack, Living with Anxiety, which gave me support organisations to contact.
Talking to them helped so much.

I’ve started seeing friends and family more instead of staying at home and obsessing about the news.
Thanks so much, Deidre, for listening, and for your support.
