Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Tina Turner, and More Are Among the 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominees

The 2021 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominees are officially here, and the list is packed with some legendary names.

Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z, Tina Turner, Dionne Warwick, and more are all up for induction into the iconic museum, which will announce the inductees in May and subsequently hold an induction ceremony in the fall. Of the 16 nominees, more than half are on the ballot for the first time, including Jay-Z, Dionne Warwick, Fela Kuti, and Iron Maiden.

“This remarkable ballot reflects the diversity and depth of the artists and music the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame celebrates” said John Sykes, chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, in a statement. “These Nominees have left an indelible impact on the sonic landscape of the world and influenced countless artists that have followed them.”

Artists become eligible for nomination when they have released their first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination. Nominees are then chosen by an international body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and various other members of the music industry, who consider a potential nominee’s influence on other artists, the length and body of their work, and the innovation and superiority of their style and technique.

Fans can participate in selecting the official inductees today through the end of April by heading to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s website. Whoever the public votes as the top five artists will make up the “fans’ ballot,” which will be tallied along with the other ballots.
