Meghan Markle’s Time cover defended by Lady Colin amid Kate Middleton backlash

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry recently graced the cover of Time magazine after it was announced they were listed in the list of 100 most influential people in the world.

However, many noted that the cover was released the day Meghan's sister-in-law, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge visited RAF Brize Norton, to meet the British troops who assisted with the emergency evacuation from Afghanistan.

While former I'm A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star Lady Colin Campbell is often outspoken against Meghan, 40, and Prince Harry, 36, the aristocrat has now defended the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after some claimed the release date of the magazine cover was timed.

Lady C, 72, whose real name is Georgia Arianna said: "In fairness to Meghan and Harry, the timing of the Time piece really is nothing to do with them.

"Yes, Harry and Meghan do compete and try to squash the attention that all of the other members of The Royal Family gets but in this instance, I think we would be unfair to actually blame them."

She went on to add: "They had nothing to do with the scheduling of the magazine, so in fairness to them, I will have to say I don't think in all honesty that they were trying to rain on Catherine's parade.

"Nor do I think that Time magazine is actually going to be coordinating its schedule to see when they can step on Catherine's toes."

The aristocrat continued: "I think that's what you call an accidental act of joyousness where they are concerned, that they were able to yet again, step on another proper working royals toes.

"But that's part of the problem with the whole scenario, Harry and Meghan or anything to do with them is so excessive."

Lady C added that for Harry and Meghan it is "virtually impossible to not step on anybody else's toes" before claiming that Meghan was jealous of Catherine.

However, she added that we have to "absolve" Meghan of "guilt".

Harry and Meghan appeared on the prestigious list alongside the likes of Marcus Rashford, singer Dua Lipa and TikTok's Charlie D'Amelio.

Describing the couple, the list said: "In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don't know, the Duke and Duchess have compassion for the people they don't know.

"They don't just opine, they run toward the struggle."

It's been a year like no other for the Queen from the loss of her husband to heartache over Prince Harry. But Her Majesty has also had a lot of cause for celebration, including the birth of baby Lilibet. To mark what a year the Queen has had, OK! Magazine is bringing you a limited edition collector's issue. Get your hands on it, here.
