Pop Idol star Darius Campbell Danesh has been found dead aged 41.

The singer was found in his Minnesota apartment five days ago (August 11), but his cause of death remains unknown.

The 41-year-old was found unresponsive in his apartment room and was later pronounced dead by the local medical examiners office.

Police have confirmed that there were no signs of intent or suspicious circumstances as medical examinations continue.

A statement revealed by his family said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Darius Campbell Danesh. "We ask that you kindly respect our wishes for privacy at this time whilst we come to terms with the tragic loss of our son and brother."

Fans of the Scottish singer-songwriter soon flooded to Twitter to share their sweet messages of sympathy and condolences to the family online.

One user penned: "So sad to hear about the death of my favourite #popidol #DariusDanesh he's the only popular one from talent shows that I actually bought albums of and a massively underrated songwriter and performer. Thoughts are with his family and loved ones [heartbroken emoji]."

Another agreed: "Very sad news! #DariysDanesh was a proper TV legend in the noughties… #PopIdol."

A third gushed: "Gutted!..I remember voting for Darius on Pop Idol. LOVED HIM..May he RIP [prayer emoji] #popidol."

"I'm shocked to hear Darius has died. Remember him so well from #PopIdol RIP [heartbroken emoji], too young at 41," one fan of the star wrote.
