Tom Hardy gave locals the shock of their lives when he turned up for a day out at Barry Island Pleasure Park on Friday.

And the friendly 43-year-old actor was more than happy to stop and smile for pictures with star-struck residents.

Tom is currently shooting his new Netflix film Havoc in nearby Cardiff so must have popped over to tourist favourite Barry Island for a bit of fun.

Local businessman Harry Danter shared a snap of himself and the Bronson star near the rides, with Tom casually dressed in a green T-shirt and combat trousers.

The caption read: "Thanks to the legend Tom Hardy for visiting us today and loving Barry island as much as we do."

Barry Island is perhaps best known for being the hometown of Stacey West in the hit BBC comedy Gavin and Stacey.

Tom’s new film also stars Timothy Olyphant and Forest Whitaker and is being directed by Welsh filmmaker Gareth Evans.

Meanwhile, fans branded one of his latest movies Capone "one of the s***** films ever".

But the movie, based on the untold story of notorious American gangster Al Capone, has still cracked the streaming platform’s top 10 list just days after being uploaded.

It boasts a star-studded cast, including Matt Dillon, Noel Fisher, Linda Cardellini and Jack Lowden, with Tom as the lead.

But even though Tom is widely regarded as one of the top actors on the block, it seems even an Academy Award-nominated Best Supporting Actor is not exempt from cruel criticism.

One animated Twitter fan blasted: "Just watched Capone on Netflix. Arguably one of the s***test films I've ever seen."

Another livid viewer moaned: "Actually one of the worst films I have ever seen.

"That Capone film on Netflix was the worst film I've watched in a long time," another added.

The film, released last year amid the coronavirus pandemic, divided opinion amongst film critics.

Tom plays ruthless gangster Capone seeing out his final days as he battles with dementia and the constant memories of his twisted past.

But some critics even went as far as to say that Tom's performance the worst of his successful acting career.
