Former X Factor and America's Got Talent star Thomas Wells has died at the age of 46.

According to his wife Jessica Wells, the singer had been involved in an horrific accident while working on a job at a tyre manufacturing plant in Oklahoma.

Thomas' wife Jessica told TMZ that part of her husband's body had been trapped in machinery – she described the equipment as a "conveyer belt" which did not stop.

The publication reports that the TV star had initially been taken to a hospital close by in Idabel, Oklahoma.

He was later airlifted to a larger hospital in Tyler Texas where specialists attempted to help save his life.

The America's Got talent singer reportedly died at the hospital in Texas on 13 November.

Thomas had been influenced by music at a young age and even self-taught himself to play many musical instruments.

As singing had clearly been a passion, Thomas had previously been a member of both the school and church choirs in his home town of Oklahoma.

Hoping to make it big with his incredible vocal range, Thomas appeared on Simon Cowell's X Factor back in 2011.

Although he wasn't successful, he did manage to impress the panel and found himself with a place at bootcamp.

Over on YouTube, Thomas can be heard belting out Rascall Flatts' I Won't Let Go in a group, with judges Nicole Scherzinger and Simon Cowell watching on.

Thomas had appeared in many other singing talent shows including America's Got Talent and The Voice.

His wife of 17 years explained to the publication that she wanted to remember her husband as a unique person with a smile on his face.

According to Jessica, Thomas would not shy away from the limelight and would often burst into song when given the chance.
