Airbnb will pay you £80,000 to build an absolutely wild home

Airbnb is home to all kinds of rentals – from the weird to the wonderful.

And a new competition launched by the platform is encouraging budding designers, architects and wannbe hosts to build a rental home somewhere between the two.

What’s more, they are willing to pay a significant sum for the best ideas.

Airbnb will fork out £80,000 to selected individuals to create an absolutely wild home – the more imaginative the better.

It might be a home in the shape of a duck, a property propped up on tennis balls, or a futuristic spaceship – the crazier the idea, the better.

The only rule is that it’s got to fit into that ‘OMG!’ category which launched last month – and has so far been clicked on more than 2.5 million times.

Ten winners will be selected in total and each will receive a cash prize of $100,000 (£81,000) – to go towards building their dream property.

And the best part is that once it’s up and running, hosts will probably make a considerable amount from renting out their home.

In fact, Airbnb says the average income for people on its platform is around £11,216 a year – but quirky rentals could bring in a lot more.

If you’ve got a unique idea and want to get involved, you can submit it on the official ‘OMG! Fund’ page, before the deadline on July 22.

The judging panel is made up of fashion sensation Iris Apfel, architect Koichi Takada and Potato Hotel host Kristie Wolfe.

So if you want to impress, go big and bizarre.
