France to reopen to British holidaymakers 'within days'

FRANCE is to reopen to Brits within days, just weeks after new travel restrictions were introduced.

French MP Alexandre Holroyd said the border would open “very soon” to tourists and holidaymakers.

He added that more information regarding the rules being scrapped would be announced in the next few days.

And senior travel sources said the decision to reopen to British tourists could be “within hours," The Times reported.

One ski operator has already relaunched trips from the UK to France this weekend, saying they expect Brits to be able to enter the country "from Saturday".

And it is great news for families who are planning a half-term holiday to Disneyland Paris, if the restrictions are eased by next month.

France has already eased some of the rules, including for work trips and for travelling through the county.

The France Consul said last week: "As of January 6, 2022, the list of compelling reasons is extended.

"In particular, business trips in both directions and transits through France to reach their home in the EU are facilitated."

France announced the travel ban on December 16, stating that all arrivals must have an "essential reason to travel to, or come from, the UK, both for the unvaccinated and vaccinated".

Other countries are also starting to ease their travel rules now Omicron has progressed across Europe.

Germany lifted the travel ban on UK tourists just weeks after introducing it.

Destinations such as Cyprus and Spain still require Covid tests, even from vaccinated arrivals.

And Morocco and Hong Kong are yet to lift their UK travel ban.

Brits will still need to check the entry requirements before travelling to a country, but the UK's own travel rules were eased last week as well – here is everything you need to know.
