When the one per cent are let loose on the world’s most luxurious hotels again, here’s where they’ll be staying.

Private jet lifestyle magazine Elite Traveler has drawn up a list of the 100 best hotel suites in the world for 2021 – and jaw-dropping opulence and show-stopping views are the order of the day.

Fit for royalty? An upgrade for royalty in most instances.

Behold the $52,000- (£37k) a-night suite in Fiji so big it’s practically a boutique hotel in itself, the $50,000- (£35k) a-stay penthouse in Miami Beach with five bedrooms and the $65,000- (£46k) a-night ‘Harbour House’ in Hong Kong, which features two outdoor lap pools.

Elite Traveler’s dream-suite list also contains the most treasured of gems in Australia (with views of the Coral Sea), London (‘oozes luxury from every corner’), New York (features a two-storey cascading crystal chandelier), Barcelona (occupies the entire top floor of the hotel) and Paris (offers panoramic views of the city’s towering architectural feats).

HILLTOP VILLA, LAUCALA ISLAND, FIJI: ‘As the name suggests,’ says Elite Traveler, ‘this sprawling suite sits at one of the island’s highest points and commands views across the Fiji archipelago. Offering 131,319 sq ft of private space, it is a boutique hotel in itself. The grounds include a master residence, two guesthouses, a two-tier private pool and an airstrip for discreet arrivals’. FOUR BEDROOM VILLA & NANNY BEDROOM, VICEROY LOS CABOS, MEXICO: ‘With towering floor-to-ceiling windows and minimalist interiors’ this hotel ‘cuts a striking figure along the shores of the Sea of Cortez’, says Elite Traveler. As well as four bedrooms, it has a kitchen and an entertainment den with a 65-inch TV. Elite Traveler continues: ‘The villa’s rooftop houses the swimming pool, solarium and plush outdoor lounge, plus a grill and alfresco dining area.’ Stays start from $12,000 (£8,647)

THE ONE ABOVE PENTHOUSE, ONE&ONLY CAPE TOWN: ‘The views of Table Mountain are phenomenal from pretty much everywhere in this penthouse,’ says Elite Traveler. It is the largest in Cape Town at 13,725 sq ft and is split over three levels – with a pool on every one. It also has four bedrooms, six bathrooms, a wraparound terrace and a deck with an outdoor shower. The hotel itself is on Cape Town’s ‘buzzy V&A Waterfront and nestled between Table Mountain and the Atlantic Ocean’. Stays start from $9,500 (£6,844)

THREE-BEDROOM DOUBLE-POOL BEACH RESIDENCE, ANANTARA KIHAVAH MALDIVES VILLAS: This beach residence is ‘surrounded by thick foliage and has a private path leading directly to the perfect beach, steps away from the teeming-with-marine-life house reef’. Elite Traveler adds: ‘It has three bedrooms (each with en-suite outdoor bathrooms), dreamy living room, lounge and dining areas, kitchen with wine fridge, infinity pool and spacious deck, and an in-villa spa treatment room.’ Stays start from $15,000 (£10,805)

JEWEL SUITE BY MARTIN KATZ, LOTTE NEW YORK PALACE: Designed in collaboration with renowned jeweller Martin Katz, this 5,000-sq-ft suite, with two bedrooms and three bathrooms, ‘celebrates the Art Deco era with a two-storey cascading crystal chandelier and floating display cases showcasing a $1.5million [£1million] collection of the jeweller’s cherished creations’. Its best feature? It comes with a ‘complimentary Martin Katz diamond microband ring and a private consultation with the man himself should you want to design a custom piece’, writes Elite Traveler. HARBOUR HOUSE, ROSEWOOD HONG KONG: According to Elite Traveler, the ‘exquisite Harbour House occupies the 57th floor and has its own private elevator and dedicated foyer’. The 12,000-sq-ft suite has five bedrooms, a bathtub made from a single slab of marble, an ‘in-suite, state-of-the-art gym, two outdoor lap pools and perfectly landscaped gardens’. Guests staying in the suite also get the use of a Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 and a 2018 Jaguar XJ. Stays start from $65,000 (£46,724)

VILLA ROSE-PIERRE, GRAND-HOTEL DU CAP-FERRAT, FRANCE: This ‘sugar-pink, four-bedroom villa’ is within the Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat on the stunning French Riviera, which has welcomed guests including Elizabeth Taylor and Winston Churchill. Elite Traveler writes: ‘With a private roof terrace, pool, tennis and Pétanque courts, a sauna, a gym, and private butler service available 24/7, it’s easy to see why the dreamy Villa Rose-Pierre offers total relaxation.’ Stays start from $8,000 (£5,750)

ROOFTOP PENTHOUSE, GRAND HOTEL TREMEZZO, COMO, ITALY: Situated on the 110-year-old hotel’s fifth floor, the Rooftop Penthouse ‘ensures you really soak up the stunning surroundings with large windows, panoramic living areas and two expansive terraces with views over the lake’, says Elite Traveler. The suite’s best feature? Its ‘not one, but two alfresco hot tubs’. The magazine adds: ‘The hotel itself is Art Nouveau grandeur at its finest and has three swimming pools (one on the water) and a private man-made lakeside beach.’ Stays start from $4,100 (£2,947)

THE OCEAN RETREAT, SIX SENSES YAO NOI, THAILAND: This two-level suite ’emphasises the outdoors, with floor-to-ceiling windows and a plethora of private outdoor space’ – including a ‘vast garden leading directly to a pristine beach’. Elite Traveler adds: ‘Guests can enjoy the panoramic views in peace from the expansive infinity pool and sundeck.’ To sum up? The hotel offers ‘a quintessential paradise island escape’. THE MAHARAJA’S APARTMENT, RAJMAHAL PALACE, JAIPUR, INDIA: This suite is inside Rajmahal Palace, a royal residence for the Maharaja of Jaipur and a 13-room boutique hotel, which has welcomed guests including the Queen and Prince Philip. Elite Traveler writes: ‘The 2,480-sq-ft suite has a huge master bedroom, living room with separate bar and drawing room, eight-person dining room, private courtyard and private entrance. Original portraits of the Maharaja adorn the walls, and the vibrant decor is a joyous and eclectic contrast of fabrics and patterns.’ Stays start from $15,100 (£10,865)

BEACH HOUSE, QUALIA, HAMILTON ISLAND, AUSTRALIA: Qualia sits on a ‘private peninsula at the tip of Hamilton Island’ and its Beach House is ‘the resort’s most exclusive property, offering indoor-outdoor living and beautiful ocean views from the private sundeck’. Its best feature? The ’40ft infinity pool looking out over the Coral Sea’. Stays start from $1,700 (£1,224)

PENTHOUSE, MANDARIN ORIENTAL, BARCELONA: This property is located in a former bank on Barcelona’s major Passeig de Gracia and its two-bedroom penthouse occupies the entire top floor of the hotel. Elite Traveler says that the suite’s views ‘are best enjoyed at sunset from one of its two terraces’. THE MEWS, THE CONNAUGHT, LONDON: According to Elite Traveler, The Connaught ‘oozes luxury from every corner’ and its townhouse-style The Mews ‘gives a sense of seclusion in the heart of the city’. It explains: ‘With 2,400 sq ft spread across three floors, and a welcoming open-plan living space and discreet private entrance, The Mews feels more akin to a second home than a hotel suite.’ The magazine also points out that guests in the suite get exclusive use of couture jewellery pieces such as ‘gold Chanel, pearl-studded Dior and Givenchy crystal necklaces’. THE PENTHOUSE, FOUR SEASONS HOTEL GEORGE V, PARIS: According to Elite Traveler, this penthouse brings a new meaning to the word ‘sightseeing’. It explains: ‘The one-bedroom penthouse at the George V offers panoramic views of some of Paris’s most awe-inspiring and towering architectural feats. FAENA PENTHOUSE FIVE BEDROOM SUITE, FAENA HOTEL, MIAMI BEACH: ‘Art and design take centre stage in the Faena Hotel Miami Beach, and the hotel’s penthouse is no exception,’ writes Elite Traveler. ‘Subtlety was not on designer Frank Pollaro’s mind when it came to imagining the five-bedroom Faena Penthouse; instead, the decor is loud, captivating and undeniably flashy.’ It has spacious sleeping quarters, butler service and ‘boundless outdoor space, with multiple balconies and terraces offering views of the Atlantic Ocean’. VILLA ROCKSTAR, EDEN ROCK, ST BARTHS: ‘A 24-carat white-gold-tiled bathroom, spa cabins and a 65ft private swimming pool with hot tub and private garden’ are just a few of Villa Rockstar’s credentials, writes Elite Traveler. It adds: ‘The 16,000-sq-ft mansion has six suites, each named after (you guessed it) a rockstar: pick from the upper level’s Mercury, Marley, Lennon or Dylan suites, or the newly unveiled ground floor Aretha Franklin and Bowie suites.’ Stays start from $26,000 (£18,749) per night and guests have a butler and private chef at their disposal

THE PENINSULA SUITE, THE PENINSULA, PARIS: Located near the Arc de Triomphe, The Peninsula Paris ‘showcases the best in French beauty and design, and nowhere is this more prominent than in the Peninsula Suite’. Elite Traveler explains: ‘Mixing contemporary decor with chic period details, the suite has high ceilings, large double-doored windows, a large fireplace, crown moulding, chandeliers and a grand piano, giving it the characteristics of a classic French residence.’ Stays start from $31,000 (£22,288)

MAESTRO SUITE, THE DOLDER GRAND, ZURICH: This hotel ‘wouldn’t look out of place in a fairy tale’ and at its highest point, ‘you will find the expansive Maestro Suite’, writes Elite Traveler. It explains: ‘Set across two floors, the suite has two bedrooms, both with en-suite marble bathrooms with whirlpool baths, kitchen space, and a dining room and lounge area, as well as a private sauna.’ Its standout feature? LOBANOV PRESIDENTIAL SUITE, FOUR SEASONS LION PALACE, ST PETERSBURG: ‘Swathed in the classic St Petersburg colours of pale blue and yellow’, this suite is a ‘palatial delight that will immerse you in the dramatic history of the birthplace of the Russian Empire’. Elite Traveler continues: ‘Inside, antique furniture, heavy brocade fabric and chandeliers abound; outside, the expansive private terrace overlooks the Aleksandrovskiy Sad park and historic Admiralty buildings.’ Stays from $14,500 (£10,427)

SILVERBACK SUITE: ONE&ONLY GORILLA’S NEST, RWANDA: This hotel is set in the foothills of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park – and its Silverback Suite ‘looks out over a forest canopy of verdant shambas and eucalyptus forest’. Elite Traveler says: ‘You’ll want to soak up the staggering surroundings from the suite’s private swimming pool, lounge and barbecue dining terrace and, come nightfall, gather around the outdoor firepit.
