Which countries are on the green list and red list? New travel rules in full after amber list scrapped

COVID testing rules for travel are changing from Monday October 4, as the UK’s traffic light restrictions are scrapped.

It has been replaced by a two-tier travel system with one category of low risk travel destinations that will only require one lateral flow test.

What are the new travel rules for fully-vaccinated Brits?

From October 4, fully-vaccinated Brits will no longer need to take a pre-departure lateral flow test or an expensive post-arrival PCR test if arriving from a country on the “green list”.

They will have to have a supervised lateral flow test after arriving instead, which would cost around £30.

The new measures look to save double-jabbed travellers around £100 per trip – making significant reductions in cost for family holidays.

Pre-departure testing will still be required by travellers arriving in the UK from red list countries.

What are the travel rules for red list countries?

People arriving from red list countries must quarantine for 10 days in a government-approved hotel, at a cost of £2,285 for one adult.

Can I travel without having a Covid vaccine?

Unvaccinated travellers will still need to self-isolate regardless of destination as they can no longer take advantage of the green list, which offered more lenient rules for people without a jab.

From 4 October, unvaccinated arrivals must take a pre-departure test in the three days before returning to UK, book and pay for day two and day eight tests and complete a passenger locator form in the 48 hours before arrival.

Upon arrival they must quarantine at home for 10 days, take a test on or before day two and on or after day eight.

In England, quarantine can be left early if travellers pay for a day five private Covid test through the Test to Release scheme.
