BRITS have been ditching the freezing UK for Thailand for decades, swapping our cold grey skies for warm tropical sunshine and taking advantage of great-value holiday prices.

The country’s recent removal from the UK’s no-go list will be welcomed by many sunseekers keen to get their fix of the country’s great beaches and hospitality.

Travel operators are stepping up to offer some brilliant packages to the southeast Asian nation this winter, with flight and hotel deals from just £492pp to the ever-popular beach town of Pattaya.

British Airways is also offering direct return flights to Bangkok from £446 return this winter.

With coastlines along both the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand, plus a range of spellbinding islands, the country has some of the most beautiful beaches in Asia with plenty of accommodation ranging from luxury spa resorts to thatched beach huts.

Destinations in the northern Gulf of Thailand such as Pattaya and Ko Chang feature white sands and are the closest to buzzing capital Bangkok.

Sunseekers can find great value deals to Pattaya, which was one of Thailand’s first beach resorts and has plenty of family-friendly resorts to the north of town.

Expedia currently has a range of holidays to the region, with the cheapest from just £517pp.

Meanwhile, the beautiful coconut islands of Ko Samui, Ko Phangan and Ko Tao in the southern Gulf of Thailand feature upscale beach resorts ideal for a tropical winter escape.

On the Andaman coast, travellers can discover the white crescent beaches of Thailand’s largest island, Phuket, and the postcard-perfect sands of Krabi province.

The beaches and islands of Krabi Province boast some of the most spectacular scenery in Thailand.

Phanghan Bay, between Krabi mainland and Phuket island, has stunning limestone formations that form a fantastic backdrop for a tropical holiday.

UK holidaymakers can book holidays to the area with top tour operators including TUI, who has deals to Krabi from £878pp this December.

Most hotels are set around beautiful Ao Nang beach, which is Krabi’s tourist hub.

Sitting off Thailand’s Andaman Coast, Phuket is the country’s largest island and was the first to develop a tourist industry so it’s a great place to stay if you like your slice of paradise to come with all modern comforts and conveniences.

As the chill sets into the UK, holidaymakers could be winging their way to the beaches of Phuket this December from £917pp with TUI, where a range of three and four-star hotels are available.

On top of its reputation for the warmest hospitality and most delicious cuisine in south-east Asia, it’s easy to see why Thailand is known as the ‘Land of Smiles’.

What are the travel rules for Thailand?

Travellers to Thailand are currently required to apply for permission to travel via the Royal Thai Government's online portal and register with the no-quarantine Phuket Sandbox and Samui Plus scheme.

The current rules are that vaccinated travellers will need to present a negative PCR test on arrival in Thailand, taken within 72 hours of travel, and are required to take up to 3 PCR tests while quarantining at the resort for 14 days.

From November 1, Brits will be able to just take a pre-arrival test and then a second test on arrival in Thailand, and won't have to quarantine.

As with all international arrivals, vaccinated Brits have to book and take a Covid test on day two after they come home and fill out a passenger locator form including details of the Covid test reference number.
