Grandmother marries long-lost lover after 60 years apart

True love will always find a way.

Cristina, 79, a grandmother from Argentina has finally reunited with her long-lost lover after 60 years apart.

In 1962, Belgian native, Jacques, now 93, moved to Buenos Aires for work and soon found the love of his life, Cristina.

Sadly, their romance was short-lived as Jacques had to return to Belgium.

The star-crossed lovers eventually moved on and started their own respective families, but the universe was to bring them together once more.

Now, 60 years on, the two have reunited and made things official – with their story being shared on TikTok.

So far it has garnered more than 1.6 million views and 214,000 likes.

In the clip, which was uploaded via Cristina’s granddaughter, Valentina Pesci, various pictures of the happy couple are shown in a slideshow.

Footage of their wedding day can also be seen, while the story of their romance is written over it too.

Users flocked to the comments to share their reactions, with many comparing the couple’s story to blockbuster rom-com hits.

‘How beautiful, like the movie Letters to Juliet,’ one person said.

While another user added: ‘Rather they are proof that when god has something for you neither time nor distance will be able to prevent blessings.’

Explaining the couple’s story, Valentina said: ‘A few years ago the two became widowers and in [the] pandemic they met again on Facebook. They travelled and met again after 60 years.

‘They were together for two years and finally got married.

‘They are proof that there is no age for love, a love that crossed all borders.

‘It is a very exciting story that everyone has to know – these are situations where reality is stranger than fiction.

‘The most important thing is that they are happy, they are two wonderful people and they deserve all the love and happiness in this world.’

In the 1960s, when Cristina realised a future with Jacques wouldn’t be possible, she married another man and moved to the province of Córdoba, where she had eight children.

Then, when her husband died at the age of 60 in 2003, Cristina continued to keep Jacques as a precious memory – but believed all hope of finding hime was gone.

However, little did she know that Jacques had visited Buenos Aires previously and asked a friend of Cristina to pass on his contact details. However, at the time, she was still married.

Then six years after her husband’s passing, she and her grandchildren scoured Facebook in search for the man in question. Very soon, Cristina and Jacques were messaging back and forth.

On January 12, 2022, the two finally made their vows to one another in Belgium and on December 3, they repeated the wedding in Argentina.

Now that is what you call a happy ending.
