The 71-year-old added that the meeting, which took place on June 13, 2021, came just months after the Queen’s husband, Prince Philip, had passed away at age 99.

She said she was warned by staff members to not mention her family, but the Queen brought up her late husband immediately.

‘We went up to her living room and they said to us, “Don’t talk about family.” The first thing she starts with is family,’ she said.

‘Prince Philip had just died recently and I think she knows Joe, I think she just wanted to talk about her husband.’

As for her favorite thing about the Queen, Jill gushed, ‘What I loved about her was that she was really independent.’

The First Lady added that her heart was with the Queen’s family amid their tragic loss.

After her death last week, Jill and Joe released a statement in which they said she was ‘was more than a monarch, she defined an era.’

‘We were honored that she extended her hospitality to us in June 2021 during our first overseas trip as President and First Lady, where she charmed us with her wit, moved us with her kindness, and generously shared with us her wisdom,’ they wrote in a joint statement.

‘Queen Elizabeth II was a stateswoman of unmatched dignity and constancy who deepened the bedrock Alliance between the United Kingdom and the United States. She helped make our relationship special.’

The couple, who first met the queen in 1982, are expected to be at her funeral next week in London – and they will reportedly be the only US delegates in attendance.

‘In a world of constant change, she was a steadying presence and a source of comfort and pride for generations of Britons, including many who have never known their country without her,’ their statement continued.

‘An enduring admiration for Queen Elizabeth II united people across the Commonwealth.

‘The seven decades of her history-making reign bore witness to an age of unprecedented human advancement and the forward march of human dignity.’

The President previously spoke out about the Queen following their meeting last year, in which he called her ‘very gracious’ and said she reminded him of his mother.

‘We had a long talk. She was very generous. I don’t think she’d be insulted, but she reminded me of my mother, in terms of the look of her and just the generosity. She was very gracious,’ he said.
