Julian Sands’ remarkable career and life off screen as he vanishes during California hike

A Room With A View Actor Julian Sands has been has been named as the hiker missing in an "extremely dangerous," part of the California mountains.

Julian was first reported missing by family on January 13.

Rescue teams have reportedly been using drones and helicopters to try and track down the 65 year old Brit and another hiker, California resident Bob Gregory, who both vanished after a winter storm in the region.

Julian, who is reportedly a keen outdoorsman with a great deal of mountain experience, was trekking in the Mount Baldy area of California’s San Gabriel valley when he disappeared.

The route, which is widely considered to be one of the most dangerous in the US, has claimed the lives of two hikers in the past month.

The search began using ground teams on Saturday, but they had to be withdrawn when weather in the area worsened and it became too dangerous for rescue workers to continue.

Julian, 65, shot to fame in the eighties when he secured supporting roles in hit films The Killing Fields and Oxford Blues.

In 1985, he gained worldwide recognition when he was cast as Helena Bonham-Carter’s love interest in A Room With A View and later moved to Hollywood to pursue a career there full time.

Julian would go on to star in films including Leaving Las Vegas with Nicholas Cage, The Medallion with Jackie Chan and in the english adaptation of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

The star also pursued a great deal of voice and television work and scored parts in hit series including 24, Dexter and Ghost Whisperer.

Off-screen, Julian grew up as one of five boys – and his youngest brother, a teacher named Quentin, also had his moment in the limelight in 1998 when he was declared Britain’s sexiest man after being nominated by one of his students.

Julian is now a dad of three himself.

He married his first wife, journalist Sarah Harvey, in 1984 and the pair had a son.

However, Sarah and Julian would split up just three years later in 1987, and Julian would move on with Evgenia Citkowitz – another journalist.

Evgenia, who is the daughter of novelist and socialite Lady Caroline Blackwood, wed Julian in 1990 and the two had two daughters.

The search for both Julian and Bob is said to be continuing, as concerns grow for both of the missing hikers.
