My partner became so distant after I terminated my pregnancy

DEAR DEIDRE: I MET my partner on a dating website three years ago. I’m 32 and he’s 40.

I accidentally got pregnant a few months into our relationship but we both felt it was too soon, so I agreed to have a termination.

Afterwards, he started to grow distant from me, and now I’m really unhappy. We have no sex life and he makes me feel like I do everything wrong.

We’ve never discussed having kids again, and he’s always careful to use protection.

An ex, who I was casually dating when I met my partner, has stayed in touch and been really supportive.

He’s now made it clear he wants to be with me and would like a family with me. I can’t stop thinking about him and deep down I know it’s him I’d rather be with. What should I do?

DEIDRE SAYS: You never worked through the impact of your termination together and it has damaged the trust. You owe it to yourself to be happy. It’s time to talk to your partner and try to resolve your issues.

My support pack Looking After Your Relationship will help you communicate better. If you can’t resolve things then it might be time to end the relationship.

That doesn’t mean the other guy is the one for you either. Don’t rush into anything until you are certain of your feelings.
