Rufus Wainwright Joines Forces With DJs Fred Falke and Zen Freeman for ‘Technopera’

Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright has joined forces with DJs/ producers Fred Falke and Zen Freeman for a new project called “Technopera” — hear a teaser below. ‘Technopera’ will be released on the long-running West End Records  under the name of Ampersounds, featuring Rufus Wainwright.

On June 2, the trio will release  their first song together, as well as an official music video created by Daft Punk creative director and one half of Daft Arts Crew, Cedric Hervet.

“I am super-proud of the work that I did with Zen and Fred,” Wainwright tells Variety. “It was liberating as a songwriter to have a platform to jump off from and only have to think about the melody and lyrics and let someone else create the track. It is unlike anything that I have ever done but somehow there still is a lot of Rufus in it. I hope that people will party to the tracks, safely of course, but we all deserve a little party I think.”

On the collaboration, Zen and Fred add, “Rufus is an exceptional talent and we had a fantastic time collaborating with him on this project. We created rich textures with strong electronic elements which we feel resonated perfectly with Rufus’ depth and intensity.”

Also, fans can now enter to win a ticket to Wainwright’s landmark virtual concert “Rufus Does Judy at Capitol Studios,” taking place on what would have been Judy Garland’s 99th birthday on June 10. The album follows Wainwright’s album, “Rufus Does Judy at Carnegie Hall,” culled from his 2006 tribute concerts to the iconic singer.

Wainwright has released 10 studio albums over the course of his 23-year recording career, the latest being 2020’s “Unfollow the Rules,” his first for BMG.
